we shouldn't underestimate Thatchers role in bringing down the USSR and re-uniting Germany either. She forced Reagan into the dialogue he had with the Russians. That in itself deserves a statue.

Not in re-uniting Germany, Bots. She was very much opposed to that and did everything to stop it.

I rated Margaret Thatcher for her strength .she looked the statesperson all through.
She never took a sledgehammer to the most vulnerable sick and disabled.
She came to power when the UK was near ungovernable.
The Unions far too extreme, even against Labour their own Party in government.

No government or PM does all right or wrong.
What she did was make the UK look strong and she always fought determinedly the UKs corner.

She made bad decisions too of course but she must go down as one of the most formidable leaders ever, a strong PM and her debating skills were second to none.

I like that kind of friendship Joey where we can have totally opposite opinions but still know we are friends even though it gets heated sometimes :laugh:and I agree whatever you thought of Thatcher she was a one off and very strong PM.:wavey:

She was worried about a united Germany because like many of her generation, she could never trust the Germans, and that's understandable. But she even Gorbachev says she was instrumental as a world leader in support for Glasnost.
