You think it's racism, that's your problems

Check yourself

if that is what he meant, he really should have found a better way to portray it, I am sure he could have made his point without using a monkey and the obvious connotations

bots 09-05-2019 06:17 AM

If the majority think it was wrong they will make their voices heard. It will be interesting how the BBC responds to it.

Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.
Soon as those good enough to point out it's possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that's it. Now stand by for sweary football tweets

It was a genuine error of judgement and should be left at that

There have been 4 Royal births in recent years, and this was the only time he felt the need to tweet a picture with a monkey :hmph: If it was a genuine error of judgement he really needs to engage brain, his radio programme will have a spike on Saturday morning to hear him grovelling...

I mean his options are admitting to being racist, or admitting to being incredibly stupid. And I don't mean "A stupid slip up" - I mean "it's not safe to leave him alone in a room with a fork and a toaster" stupid.

Trying to make this "other people's problem for having racist minds waaah" is toddler behaviour though so maybe it is the latter.

its all about intent isnt it and i think he is reacting to the twitter pitchfork brigade

bots 09-05-2019 07:35 AM

i think his intention was clear, and the whole thing was pre-planned including the excuse he would make. He wanted to stir it up a bit and he succeeded. Don't like the guy, never have, and he can go back into his box of obscurity as far as i'm concerned. I'm sure Meghan has had to deal with a lot more than that during her life.

i'm leaning towards this as well, you don't work in the media as long as he has without having an idea of what response you are going to get

Crimson Dynamo 09-05-2019 07:55 AM

I said to the TL about it just being a performing monkey he meant and she said "my arse, why not use a performing Bear as that is more recognisable and not open to interpretation"

I hate when she does that :oh:

I am just monitoring a pair of Muckboots she bought from Amazon that were too big, they are currently in the living room at her side of the sofa and i am wondering how long they will sit there before the return is properly done and the box put by the door to take to the PO

It better not be 7 days like her macular degeneration light bulbs

Exactly !
Kate & William have had 3 children and I don't remember a silly "joke" about a performing monkey leaving the hospital with them , I don't understand how people can defend Baker:facepalm: .

Twosugars 09-05-2019 09:15 AM

Always thought the guy was a sad creep. Good to have it confirmed.

bots 09-05-2019 09:35 AM

He has been fired from the BBC

Niamh. 09-05-2019 09:36 AM

Imagine having to deal with this **** still and people say racism doesn't exist anymore

No one anywhere? That's a bold statement to make

Livia 09-05-2019 09:44 AM

Children are little monkeys, I call my nieces monkeys all the time. Would I call a black child a monkey? No. Because I wouldn't want to cause unnecessary offence. If this was a mistake, then it was a stupid, insensitive mistake and he should apologise.

You are oddly defensive about this, why is that?

bots 09-05-2019 09:51 AM

the BBC didn't mess about, they just fired him because racist or not, he knew what he was doing and the reaction it would get.

smudgie 09-05-2019 10:08 AM

A bit silly in this day and age. He should know better.
I called my nieces and nephews little monkeys, one of them happens to be mixed race, never thought anything of it.
Lived in Africa with both monkeys and black people, never once heard a black person called a monkey:shrug:
But I accept that in this day and age it can very well be seen as derogative and therefore would never use it.
Better not call any future babies in the family piccaninny either now.

Crimson Dynamo 09-05-2019 10:09 AM

what if I told everyone on here that Danny did not know Meghan is mixed race

with that knowledge would that change your opinion?
