I wouldn't consider Avatar "highly rated", it got pretty average reviews aside from its technical effects, no?

I guess Titanic is the obvious choice here... but I can't really think of any others. I could never get into Lord of the Rings but I was 11 at the time  I'm trying to think of recent Oscar-bait movies that I dislike...

OH I really didn't like the Grand Budapest Hotel. Find Wes Anderson's style so affected and tiring and don't have the time to sit and admire how QUAINT and DAINTY every little damn detail is. Write a plot babe.

Alf 15-02-2020 06:22 PM

Titanic is fairly good. Not one I'd over champion, but it is decent.

i thought avatar was pretentious drivel, and back to the future makes me cringe

Sorry Alf .. we seem to be on the same page 99% of the time but the Back to Future movies leave me cold

I tend to go for historical or true stories, gangster movies tend to be based on real incidents/ people of course ..

Then again I love the Deadpool movies plus all the CGI animations..Toy Story and the like

Put a jacket on or turn up the heating while watching them, then.

Saph 15-02-2020 06:48 PM

Not a fan of anything superhero related, Avengers, Guardians of the galaxy, Batman, Suicide squad etc.. they're SO boring and the CGI is always shocking

idk how these films always break records at the cinema

Adamw92 15-02-2020 06:51 PM

Any Star Wars movie, can’t stand them

Saph 15-02-2020 06:52 PM

The Greatest Showman is another one.. awful awful film

Amy Jade 15-02-2020 06:54 PM

Parasite that won best picture oscar is pretty bad

Kazanne 15-02-2020 06:55 PM

I don't like the Bond movies,i have never watched one all the way through,Skyfall is the only one I watched a little.

Cool?

Chicago.

Other than Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger being occasionally sexy in it, it's empty.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 15-02-2020 07:31 PM

Haven’t watched it but i’m gonna say the shawshank redemption bc i think it’ll piss alf off

Taxi Driver

Jessica. 15-02-2020 07:53 PM

The Indiana Jones films

Marsh. 15-02-2020 07:56 PM

I remembering watching Crash when everyone was raving about it and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and they handle the issues of racism with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Won the Best Picture Oscar and everything. Dire.

GiRTh 15-02-2020 07:59 PM

Titanic - The whole thing doesnt make sense.
The Piano - The most overrated film I've ever seen. Holly Hunters performance is good but Anna Paquins accent is all over the place, what with the marks on Harvey Keitels face. I just dont get what the critics were going crazy about.

Jessica. 15-02-2020 08:00 PM

Oh, the Hangover films and Ted, absolute DRIVEL

 In terms of plot, it's pretty straight forward.

No, the whole film is told in flashback by the aging Rose. She couldn't have seen half the things that happened in the film.

Let me try and make sense of Titanic for you.

It's Romeo and Juliet set in the disaster of the Titanic.

You need to get busy watching Shawshank.

Tibbs favourite film.

GiRTh 15-02-2020 08:19 PM

See above. Maybe I should change my post and say Titanic has a major plot hole.

Inception and Interstellar. My two least favourite Nolan films.

I don't think it was literally meant to be her story in that sense. :joker:

She was telling her story of the disaster to the other characters, but we the viewers were just shown the full unfolding of the disaster.

Having said that, I don't think there was much in there she couldn't have been told about. Such as Jack telling her his own story of how he got on the ship etc.

GiRTh 15-02-2020 08:32 PM

Its a James Cameron film so the tightness of the script was never going to be a priority. For all the awards it won it is probably the worse film to have won Best Picture. It was no surprise it was not even nominated for best script.
