We've discovered a fun new health condition our car has: if he's not been fired up for over 24h he really struggles to start at all. Probably in need of an oil change. But this is the first time in well over a year the car hasnt been used every day. For now we're working round it by firing him up and revving the engine for a bit every day even if we're not going anywhere but I feel like we may need to brave the garage :worry:. |

A breathing aid that can help keep coronavirus patients out of intensive care has been created in under a week.
University College London engineers worked with clinicians at UCLH and Mercedes Formula One to build the device, which delivers oxygen to the lungs without needing a ventilator. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices are already used in hospitals but are in short supply. China and Italy used them to help Covid-19 patients. Forty of the new devices have been delivered to ULCH and to three other London hospitals. If trials go well, up to 1,000 of the CPAP machines can be produced per day by Mercedes-AMG-HPP, beginning in a week's time. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has already given its approval for their use. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52087002 credit to BOTs |

Uber will give away hundreds of thousands of free trips and meals to NHS staff working on the frontlines during the coronavirus outbreak. The taxi and food delivery company said that as of Monday 30 March, it will offer 200,000 complimentary trips and 100,000 meals to medical staff in order to support them while they work with patients who have been infected by Covid-19. We’re covering 100,000 free meals through Uber Eats, from thousands of restaurants and convenience stores. NHS and HSC staff can choose to order a hot meal from a local restaurant, or essential items from a nearby shop available on the Uber Eats app, all delivered directly to them. To help keep the NHS and HSC on the move, we’re also committing 200,000 free rides to and from work, which will be available to all staff with a valid NHS or HSC email address. We want to help reduce the pressure on the heroes on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, so please share this email with anyone you know who works for the NHS. And while you’re at it, please thank them for all that they do. Terms and conditions apply. Please see our website for more deta |

A 99-year-old English man has raised nearly £1.5 million for British health workers by attempting to walk the length of his garden one hundred times before his 100th birthday later this month.
Captain Tom Moore, who has used a walker to move around since breaking his hip, said he was grateful to the National Health Service for the treatment he received and wanted to do something in return. Britain's state-funded NHS is under severe strain as it treats large numbers of people suffering from Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Medics have been widely praised for their bravery and professionalism during the crisis, including by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who recovered from the virus after being treated by the NHS in a London hospital. Capt Moore, who turns 100 on 30 April, had hoped to raise £500,000, but his charity campaign has nearly tripled that figure already. The military veteran, who served in Asia during World War Two, had a message of hope for his compatriots. "That's the way I think I've always looked at things: tomorrow will be a good day," he said. |
The first UK-built ventilators backed by a consortium of leading manufacturers have been delivered to hospitals over the weekend, with another device now in final clinical trials.
It is understood a number of ParaPac devices, made by Smiths Medical – whose production lines have been boosted by the involvement of The Ventilator Challenge UK (TVUK) group – were sent to wards across the UK in the last few days. Production of the model, which was already being built before the Covid-19 outbreak, was scaled up by the involvement of the consortium, which includes Formula One racing teams Mercedes, McLaren and Williams. |
