Questioning Humza Yousaf’s competence is ‘racist’, says SNP MSP

https://i.somethingawful.com/forumsy.../emot-ughh.gif

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/...eg?imwidth=500

People who question the competence of Scotland’s new First Minister by
calling him “useless” are racists, an SNP MSP has claimed.

Karen Adam, who loudly backed Humza Yousaf’s successful bid to succeed
Nicola Sturgeon, said that he was already being targeted with “racist tropes”
that were “utterly disgusting”.

However, in her column in the pro-independence newspaper The National, MZ
Adam claimed that the new First Minister had been unfairly criticised since
he announced his leadership bid because of the colour of his skin.

Ms Adam went on to call on “white allies” to “call out” the attacks on Mr
Yousaf, claiming she feared the “misogyny Nicola endured” had “now flipped
to racism towards Humza”.

Opponents insisted that attacks on Mr Yousaf, who was born in Glasgow to
immigrants from Pakistan and Kenya, were based on his performance in
government roles. (YA THINK?)

The arrest comes just weeks before Sir Iain Livingstone, the chief constable of
Police Scotland, is set to retire. Livingstone announced his decision to retire
just eight days after Ms Sturgeon’s resignation

From DT comments on the timing of all of this:

"Anyone who does not realise that the whole process has been carefully
coordinated between the Murrells and Police Scotland, must have had their eyes
closed and their fingers in their ears - and I think Yousaf may be one of those
people! The "missing" £600k has been being investigated for the best part of
two years - arrests of senior SNP officials have been on the cards for months -
then it all happens immediately after the surprise resignations of the party
leader, the Chief Exec and the Chief Constable, but giving just enough time for
the Murrells' best pal Yousef to be appointed the new leader. Too many
coincidences"

The firm that audits the SNP's finances has resigned, the BBC has learned.

Accountants Johnston Carmichael, which has worked with the party for more than a decade, said the decision was taken after a review of its client portfolio.

By law, the party has until 7 July to present their accounts to the Electoral Commission or face possible sanctions.

It comes after police investigating the party's finances searched the home of former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell - Nicola Sturgeon's husband.

He was arrested on Wednesday and later released without charge.

A spokesperson for the SNP said they were in the process of finding a replacement firm.

Letter to the DT

SIR – It is worth casting one’s mind back to April 2021, during the pandemic,
when Nicola Sturgeon, as first minister of Scotland, said: “I do think there is a
need for real, proper investigation and real and proper scrutiny around the
swirling of allegations around [Boris] Johnson and the Tory party … It is
genuinely a real stench of sleaze and it is in the public interest that these things
are properly addressed and properly answered.”

Just two years later, these words are more applicable to the SNP (report, April
6).

Sturgeon raging about finances

https://api.brusselstimes.com/wp-con...referendum.jpg

A furious Nicola Sturgeon ordered the SNP’s ruling body to stop asking
questions about the party’s finances shortly after police started investigating
them, it has been alleged.

Insiders said the then first minister tried to quash questions from the party’s
national executive committee (NEC) about £600,000 that had been raised
from supporters to fight a new independence referendum campaign.

Ms Sturgeon was said to have told the recorded meeting in August 2021, a
month after police launched an investigation: “We don’t need to talk about
the finances. The finances are absolutely fine.”

The Sunday Mail reported that a “raging” Ms Sturgeon warned the NEC
members that raising the issue “was undermining the party” and made clear
“it shouldn’t be discussed”.

Sources also alleged that Peter Murrell, her husband and the SNP’s former
chief executive, was behind the shortened timetable for the party leadership
contest to succeed her.

Although the party has insisted that Lorna Finn, the national secretary, was
in charge of the process, insiders said that Mr Murrell was in “complete
control”.
