I wonder what the emotions are when people watch Friends these days after Matthew Perry passed away ?

Don't like Friends, don't like Schitts Creek, have never watched Gavin and Stacey. I'll get my coat..........

…I’ll give it a watch with you as well, CeeCee….I did watch some of the first season a while ago and I liked it ok…but I didn’t live it and sitcoms are not usually so much my thing…Friends was quite exceptional but maybe it was just more THAT TIME…I think also with Friends, it was that there were so many traits in them that were in my own Friends or myself, you know…similar with Sex in the City and that friendship group that had some relatable things…anyway, it’s nice to have something lighter to tap in and out of as well so I’ll re-try Schitt’s Creek…I love Catherine O’Hara anyway…

…a recent excellent comedy series I’ve watched the first season of…(…because it’s only one season in…)…is Nobody Wants This, I would totally recommend that one…I just couldn’t put it down until I’d watched the season to the end…

As for the " laugh track ", I remember watching a behind the scenes documentary about friends .And they had a real audience...but they would use a quick short taped laugh track for some of the jokes,as the audience laugher was interrupting the actors next lines,which made sense.

…didn’t Cheers and many other huge sit cons have that live audience at that time…?..it was ‘a thing’…but yeah, I can understand how it can irritate as well…like being told when to laugh…come to think, didn’t things like The Lucy Show, back in the day…have that audience/canned laughter, thing….I mean, the audience had probably sat there for around 75 hours so what else could they do but laugh for their release…

Yeah many sitcoms did both live audience & canned laughter for sure .

…I mean, even now…entertainment shows that have a live audience…?…still have the ‘warm up’ people or person, don’t they…that prep them on audience reaction at specific points…I mean we only have to look at BB crowds…and their boooooo sections and cheer sections and which section will be the loudest…etc…

The greatest. The first season takes a while to build but from that it is such an excellent show.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a bit of fun (Joey and the Gellers are my favourite characters), but Cheers and Seinfeld are both way better imo.

My friend got tickets to be part of the audience whilst recording and episode of Birds of a Feather....I seriously struggled to raise a smile.

Nope. I just don't really have any intention of watching sit-coms as I just don't really find them that funny.

I have a very dry sense of humour. Maybe that's why.

In real life people people often tell me I'm hilarious and have no idea why. I don't intentionally go out to try and be funnu

Friends, although may have had a live audience, engineered the laughing. People sometimes laugh just if others are laughing even if it's not that funny.

I did find parts of Mrs Brown's boys funny.

First few episodes in particular

The humour in Schitts Creek is different to Friends, also it isn't filmed in front of an audience or have canned laughter

That's one I don't find at all funny :laugh:

The episode where Monica and chandler get married is the prime example of this when Chandlers mum asks his dad about having too much penis to be wearing a dress like that. The audience went crazy and for about ten minutes. They had to shorten that.

…I think with Friends, a lot of it for me was that thing of seeing something of your own friends in the character traits…and even some of yourself…I mean, I’m that person that would take all of the freebies/those sampler things home from the hotel room in that episode…Im reformed now but when the boys were younger, they loved getting those if they were at home being looked after by grandparents and we’d been away for a little break…I took back whatever I could for them…I stripped those hotel rooms to the bone…

..and I know so many Monica’s…I also know quite a few Rachel’s as well…

Same. Always dismissed it as corny American rubbish, but when i got with my first girlfriend, i was like 12, i would walk her home from school and go to hers for the evening. Her family watched Friends every Friday night, i think S6 had just started, anyway, i had no choice but watch, after 1 episode i was hooked. Borrowed my girlfriend's sister's VHS box sets and binge watched them to catch up. I feel like S4/5/6 was peak Friends.

Talking of worst sitcoms, The Big Bang Theory is the worst sitcom in the history for the world ever!

I started watching new episodes with S6. Before that I got into it because the repeats were on every day after another show I watched.

The Big Bang Theory is squarely aimed at the 12-16 age group tho

It's funny....when I watched it as a kid I thought Rachel was a fun person,then as I got older I actually preferred Monica. And just found Rachel annoying especially both her & Ross lol .

There's a few where they had to switch to laugh track,I think the las Vegas one was like that aswell . But I've noticed when I watch some old comedies , including British ones...the laughter sometimes drowns out actors lines which is annoying.

You can tell at times they try to wait for the audience to
stop laughing to deliver their next line,but other times
they just echo over it.

The one with the Jellyfish sprang to mind, also The One with the Routine, where Ross and Monica do their dance for that NYE's TV Show

I have a few favourite episodes.

One of my favourite's is when Joey outsmarts Phoebe, with the whole " no selfless deed " situation. When he did that telethon,and Phoebe let a bee sting her :laugh: .

AHH yeah I like the NYE episode aswell lol :).

There's probably loads more I haven't thought of, I liked the episodes with Phoebes brother as well, Frank Jnr, he was pretty funny

What's weird is how we don't see Frank Jnr at Phoebe's wedding, I guess the excuse was the blizzard.

Another episode I'm really fond of is when Ross is trying to get everyone to hurry up and get ready ,when he's doing a important speech/ event or something. And Chandler & Joey are fighting over the chair like little kids :joker: .

Another reason I really like this episode....is because it was when I discovered friends ,and it was the first episode I saw :love: lol .

Oh and that episode where I think it's Rachel goes to see Ross when he's giving a lecture and he's speaking with a "British" accent :laugh:

Oh god ....that was so silly ,when he kept trying to "phase it out" :laugh: .

It was sad of course,but I still enjoy watching friends...as it's nostalgic & funny . And there's a few famous faces in different TV shows & movies ...who have passed ,but by watching these things...I guess it's keeping their memories alive.

When Robin Williams died for e.g ,all I wanted to do was rewatch Mrs Doubfire & Jumanji :love: .
