Jokes about Jews (including extermination jokes) have been a past time of internet humor since the mid 90s. I never understood what they were even making fun of but had a Jewish BFF at one point who had become a favorite target of a group of Christian girls. Including trying to convert her. I never got the impression one could complain about it as a Jew because it would just lead to more cruel ribbing.

I have never understood why some people think that it's okay to bully Jewish people tbh.

And tbf I remember Islamophobia was a big thing at my Primary School.

It's probably difficult (as a Jew) to not take personally a lot of what is happening there and being said... so I see some of that being due to Jewish people/individuals who are also speaking up on their own behalf politically, perhaps even defend their own right to exist. It's all very complicated.

Absolutely. Envy is a huge motivator for people to target others and it's not talked about very much. That isn't just an issue with how some treat Jews. Acting out based on jealousy or envy is encouraged in our culture with all the talk of certain groups having it better than others. People are generally more willing to overlook certain abuse if they perceive the person being targeted somehow has more advantage than them, even if that individual clearly has had a hard time in life. I've seen that with treatment of people in my own family with crippling disabilities. They were white they were perceived to be somehow more well off and so what's a little bit of mistreatment... they've survived everything else fine, right?

There has been clear evidence of some people not liking Jewish people because of the Israel conflict with Palestine.

Just like how there are innocent Muslims that get tarred with groups like ISIS and the Taliban by some people.

The LBC presenter read out a message on air from a listener who claimed that Jews are taught “Arabs are cockroaches to be crushed”.

Mr O’Brien, a former host of BBC Newsnight, said he read out the message in the interest of “objectivity”.

But the Board of Deputies of British Jews have labelled the comments “unacceptable and highly offensive”, and have called on LBC to apologise and “take Mr O’Brien off air”.

The Telegraph understands the broadcast has also been reported to the Metropolitan Police, with one complaint alleging that the programme spread “lies about Jews”.

Police have reportedly been told the show “puts Jews in very real danger”.

I was never taught that [story above]. Israel has the most Jews of any country (obviously), and more than 20% of the population of Israel is Arab. Those Arabs have all the same rights and freedoms as everyone else in the country be they Jews, Christians, Muslims, Atheists or something else. Oh it won't last forever. People are getting fed up with dumbed down culture. We live with too many effects of it on a daily basis and it's not a secret we are slipping. I think once we have weaned ourselves out of a coddling mentality and sharpened back up our interpersonal communications, it's not gonna be a matter of if, but rather when people start pointing out easily observable logic that would make it much harder for any kind of bullshit status quo to stick. This kind of conversation only comes off intelligent to others because we have had a very lazy libertarian perspective on our culture that was based around not upsetting people for so long. I already see people from all over becoming done with it. There should be a minimum age requirement like alcohol for when debates about historic events are allowed to even happen with how poorly our youth has been done by our education system... (that was a joke)

People feel free to insult Jews because they disagree with Israel and they can't separate French or English or any other nationality of Jews with Israelis. lt happens regularly on this very forum and the comments are not only allowed to remain, they're supported. I've stopped reporting posts because nothing happens. And it's mostly from people who turn themselves inside out with indignation if anyone speaks against whichever niche they identify their lives. I honestly don't think it will get better, I think it will get worse and more Jews will die. And some people will celebrate that. How much of what they say though do they actually believe and isn't just following the same trend of saying certain things for shock value. Being shameless is practically free at this point with where we are now and the downsides to that are almost non-existent, so it's obviously profitable to keep playing that card. At least in part, I can see that the "logic" used is something spun up to appeal to their demographics who treat mishandling controversial topics like it's the Olympics version of "being real".

It's the same to me when people are attacking others for not following their correct moral position with them (with every new, new thing that comes up), but they go about it the most malicious way but using hysterical logic to broadcast their own virtue. That's not different, imo, because it's being based upon the importance of looking a certain way to the overall crowd and I tend to think those people are the most fakest of all.

So while I clearly think at least some (especially in the youth) are parroting these views because it's trendy... Unfortunately, it falls into the same trap where attacks on Jews or general anti-Semitism have always often been filed under the umbrella of saying things for attention and shock value (as in the 90s as the internet grew). So people have gotten used to hearing that out in the wild without thinking much of it and so then it means actual malice is treated as people joking around and being non-serious and immature. Eventually that pattern will have to be stopped.

I don't think that Livia is wrong to say violent incidents will increase, because as bad as October 7th was, it hasn't done much to reverse that trend. But then there still is and are a lot of people that didn't think Anti-Semitic views still had this much traction within our own borders.

It definitely appears to be trendy in certain circles to be Anti-Semitic.

I had actually looked into Judaism at some point many many years back. They don't seem to actively convert, in fact, supposedly it's discouraged. This sounds more like Christianity. You don't really hear about Jewish folk setting up small compounds so they can actively birth and raise as many children as humanly possible amongst all the sisters and sometimes sisterwives.

They also don't seem to be as enthusiastic about running around saying to everyone how wonderful it is to be a Jew, for obvious reasons.
