I noticed that too James and it could well have effected the text voting as her name is actually spelt 'Emma'.

I think Michelle has got a great voice, but its such a shame that she has got it into her mind that if she wants to get on she must lose weight (probably true, but what a reflection of our society).

I wasnt impressed with any of the others. And the way that Jason behaved just showed that he is too immature to cope with the cut throat world of show business. He can always come back next year.

James 14-09-2003 11:27 PM

I think Kate Thornton does a fairly good job on Pop Idol Extra. However, the after-vote show is pretty gruesome in all honesty.

'Oh, look Jason's crying again. Why don't I go over there and make him feel worse about it'

'Do you know you only missed out by 1.5%?'

'Oh, I thought telling you that would make you feel better!'

The Sun says there is going to be a wildcard show.

Quote:

TWO Pop Idol flops will be handed a second chance to make it through to the final, it was revealed yesterday.

One wannabe will be voted in by the public and another by the four judges on a Wildcard Show — based on the same format used on American Idol 2.

After the public select their final ten, judges Simon Cowell, Nicki Chapman, Neil Fox and Pete Waterman will call back eight hopefuls from the 40 who failed to make the grade.

Those eight will perform once more for the judges and hope to grab one of the two extra places.

A show spokesman said: “Just when you thought your favourite contestant was out of the show forever we’ll be giving them a second chance.”

This means Jason — who missed out on a place in the final by just TWO votes on

Saturday — and lapdancer Rebecca could yet win Pop Idol.

Hosts Ant and Dec will announce the results in another nail-biting live show.

The ITV series producer Claire Horton said “We’ve seen so much talent so far on this series and the calibre is really high, I’m sure the public and judges alike, will be keen to give the Pop Idols that haven’t made it to the final ten one last chance.”

I'm not sure how they will decide the 8 places in the wildcard heat if there are 5 final-50 shows. Maybe it's a case of the judges choosing their favourites.

This week

5th: Adam
4th: Jodie (The ill1 )
3rd: Suzanne
2nd: Brian
1st: Kirsty

steve_o 20-09-2003 11:47 PM

I like Kirsty I thought she was funny she gave Pete Waterman a bit of Stick and I liked that, good on her. I hope she goes far, still a long way to go yet though. :dazzler:

:spin:

Has anyone else noticed that this year image seems to be the most important thing.

James 21-09-2003 11:33 PM

If you ask me, Simon Cowell can be inconsistent in his comments. Last week he was on about how many of the competitors gave a performance just to get throught the audition, but isn't that what Brian did this week? Simon criticised Samantha for being over-dressed. Kirsty? (I agreed with the public vote for her though)

And one thing the judges don't seem to understand is that whoever wins Pop Idol is guaranteed to sell millions of records no matter what his or her image is.

Simon was very much interested in image over talent when it came to Maxwell on Saturday. He was one of the weakest vocalists but Simon still made positve comments. Of course, it could have something to with the fact that Simon once signed Maxwell to be part of a boy band. Also, Brian is related to a member of Westlife, who Simon also signed to the label he works for.

I thought maybe Adam should have gone through with Kirsty. Susanne got third, but she was very nervous in her performance.

Pop Idol Results

5th- Suzanne
4th- Kieron
3rd-Sam
2nd-Roxanne(The 16 year old1)
1st-Marc

James 27-09-2003 10:34 PM

It's a bit of a shock that one because Keiran was the strong favourite to go through. Pete Waterman was right though about picking the wrong song. Maybe Keiran can get through in the wildcard show.

Marc has been criticised in the Scottish press for having a criminal conviction. Obviously the public ignored that.

So what difference does that make to whether or not he can be a pop idol? I thought last night was a very strong group and should think that at least a couple of the wild cards will have sung last night.

James 28-09-2003 08:33 PM

I should have mentioned before that he was convicted with two friends of a serious assault on a man who nearly died. He was jailed for a year and his friends went to prison for four and six years.

Sunday Mail article

I'm surprised that they let him continue to compete in the show. Pop Idol is going to get a lot of flak in the press because of this.

Maybe they even want the controversy.

WILDCHILD 29-09-2003 05:50 PM

I'm glad to see a bitmore chit chat about Pop Idol. I think its brilliant, Im loving every minute of it.
Sats lot were very strong - I didnt have my cards on Roxanne or Marc to going through but they raised their game on the night and thats what it is all about, no matter who your faves are, look at Will,no-one really knew who he was until he sang on the night, and also told Simon what he thought of him!

BusyBee 29-09-2003 10:14 PM

Sorry James but I dont see this as a reason for Marc to be thrown out. What he has done is in the past. Surely that shouldnt be held against him for the rest of his life.

James 05-10-2003 01:15 AM

Kim and Leon went through tonight.

Tarek did well to get fifth place, although I thought he could actually sung better than some of the contestants that were meant to be able to sing.

BigSister 05-10-2003 10:58 AM

I thought that those two would go through

BigSister 11-10-2003 10:32 PM

Tonight Mark and Andy went through
But there was a twist:hugesmile:
8 failed final 50 got another chance
They are

Heat 1
Jason and Rebecca
Heat 2 Suzanne and Jodie
Heat 3 Sam and Kieron
Heat 5 Daniella and Glen
1 will be chosen by the public and 1 by the judges

AndyJK 12-10-2003 01:06 AM

I had a feeling this might happen. I'm pleased to see Rebecca and especially Susanne make it to the wildcard round. Both gave really good performances and I was disappointed when they failed to make it through.

James 12-10-2003 11:56 PM

I can't exactly work out how Andy Scott-Lee got through on Saturday. :conf:

Too many of the contestants are doing boring ballads at the moment also. There seems to be certain songs that come up every week.

blinkinlovely 13-10-2003 07:37 AM

Mmmmmmmmmm
:conf::conf::conf::conf:
Not sure how I am feeling about pop Idol at the moment. Is it genuine? The votes honest and secure?

Went to Cardiff this weekend. At every bus stop there was a simply created , A4 poster with the messgae: Vote Becky - Welsh beauty-Text vote ****** (whatever!)

There was even a message on the main screen at the Stadium saying a similar thing!!!! Mmmmmmmmm - and I thought it was all about how she sang on the night.

Because he's Lisa Scott-Lee's (from Steps) brother? And because he used to be in pop group 3SL (who had a very lasting career!!)?

BigSister 19-10-2003 04:37 PM

Suzanne and Sam got through last night in the wildcard round

AndyJK 26-10-2003 03:20 PM

I'm really pleased Susanne has made it through to the final 10. There is something very unique about this girl and she has such a great voice. Whether she wins Pop idol or not - and with certain manipulation occuring I have a feeling she won't, I still believe she has a singing career ahead of her.

Her last 3 performances have been exceptional, and even when she goes out of tune as was clearly notable during last night's performance of the Alanis Morissette song she still carries through in her own style with such vigour.
