Matthew Wolfenden believes Emmerdale could sweep the board at today's British Soap Awards.
The actor, who plays David Metcalfe in the ITV1 show, said the cast are confident that they can win the award for best soap. He told the Press Association: "I think, this year particularly, Emmerdale has had some cracking storylines and we've got some great actors and actresses up for best actor and actress. "I think it could be this year that Emmerdale wipes the board. We're all keeping our fingers crossed and let's hope it is." Co-star Nicola Wheeler, who plays David's villainous lover Nicola De Souza, agreed that the Yorkshire-based show has a good shot at the top prize. She said: "I think we stand as good a chance as any soap really. Fingers crossed but I think that most soaps accept that obviously EastEnders and Coronation Street are going to get more awards simply because their audience is bigger and so you've got more of a chance because of the fact that their viewers will vote." |
WTF does Doctors have to be involved!

Emmerdale star Nicola Wheeler is backing Jack P. Shepherd to win best villain at today's British Soap Awards.
The actress, who plays Nicola De Souza, said her character is better suited to a 'rubbish villain of the year' gong after repeatedly failing in her attempts to kill onscreen husband Donald (Michael Jayston). She claimed that Shepherd is more deserving of the title for his portrayal of David Platt in Coronation Street. The pair face competition from soap baddies including Coronation Street's Alison King (Carla Connor), and EastEnders stars Rob Kazinsky (Sean Slater) and Sophie Thompson (Stella Crawford). Wheeler told MSN: "It's exciting but I'm quite backing the young lad who plays David Platt on that one, which I know I shouldn't say because I'm in Emmerdale, but I think he's a true villain." |
