Gavin:

“You are completely right about all of them.”

See above. Sorry to disappoint you!

“I guess people are just looking for a reason to dislike Rachel.”

Conveniently missed the part in my original post which says “Don't get me wrong - I love Rachel. She's so friendly and so positive and I hope she wins…”, did you, lol?

“…and not actually see the real facts behind them.”

Again, see above!

“You sure put em [sic] in there [sic] place.”

Again, sorry to disappoint you!

lol yeah that would come handy ...if any of the kids she teaches wind up on bb.
I like her too but her childlike enthusiasm ( ie sitting alone talking to her self as she ate dinner the other night) might be masking something deeper. Atleast I hope it is because if that's all there is then ...

It amazes me how many forum members will rush into print to say, in effect, "i'm just as ill informed as she is, why is that a bad thing?!

It is a bad thing for a "teacher" to never have heard of Lewis Carroll and/or Alice Through the Looking Glass (Alice in Wonderland). Even Walt Disney knew that!!! lol:whistle:

I've heard of Tony Blair. I've heard of George Bush. I've never heard of Boris Johnson, if he's done anything that important I'm sure I would know, but I don't.

I never ever use the word condiments, never heard of it before I read the first post, just because you know it, and maybe some other people, doesnt mean everyone else does and uses it everyday, why say condiments when you can just say its name and not confuse people who dont know what it means?

The other points I suppose your right, but I dont think some of them got into the Highlights and I only watch the highlights so I cant exactly defend Rachel if I've never heard her say the other things.

so when someone asks you if you'd like a condiment what will you answer? ... "stop making me brains hurt!!" ... do you know what a potatoe is ...or what's more commonly know as "CHIPS" or "MASH"

Urgh, I hate mash, well I know what a potato looks like and I would assume its a vegetable since it doesnt look like it would be fruit, and I dont really like chips anyways so I wouldnt ask for it.
I would ask "what are condiments", I've never been taught that word before, and if I have then I dont remember

1. She doesn’t know how many days there are in a year.
2. She doesn’t know if a potato’s a vegetable…
3. …and thinks a tomato is one.
4. She thinks London’s a village.
5. She’s never head of Boris Johnson.
6. She doesn’t know what a walrus is.
7. She thinks Belgium is a city.
8. She doesn’t know what condiments are.
9. She doesn't know what the word 'peril' means.
10. She's never heard the phrase "toilet humour".
11. She thinks Mexico is a Caribbean island.

Rachel, you’re a great gal but come on – get it sorted! Our children’s futures are in your hands, lol!

Good for her, Jade Goody made a career of being just as dim without having to be nice either, and Rachel has mastered the art without having to shed any clothes, rather than a fool, I'd say the girl is quite a genius:wink:

“I've heard of Tony Blair. I've heard of George Bush. I've never heard of Boris Johnson, if he's done anything that important I'm sure I would know, but I don't.”

I'm sorry, but he has. And you stilll haven't heard of him!

By the way, I should clarify that I'm not a fan of Boris Johnson (the Mayor of London, Shadow Home Secretary, Tory MP, newspaper editor and TV presenter who’s rarely out of the national headlines, who’s never “done anything important” and of whom I’ve never heard). I just find it bizarre, cringeworthy and a little scary that one or two of you have never heard of him. As I’ve said before, by admitting that, you’ve revealed unambiguously that you never watch the news or read a newspaper and by not knowing what’s going on, you’re allowing these politicians to con you and get away with murder (literally sometimes!).

Why the personal attack? Just because I dont know what he has done doesnt mean I havent done anything important. I'm sorry but if you really did like Rachel you wouldnt be stooping to this level and really trying to make Rachel a fake bad person. Say all you want, if you were a fan you wouldnt act like this, and thats my opinion.
Politics dont take my fancy, so I dont pay attention to that part of the news.

brandstifter 31-08-2008 11:51 AM

When somebody asks me whether I want condiments, as they often do when I eat in a restaurant or pub, I usually reply “Yes please”. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never found that particularly complicated!

"I'm sorry, but he has. And you haven't!" is a personal attack? My word, you're more sensitive than Kat! All I've done is to state two facts. Boris Johnson IS extremely well known and you HAVEN’T heard of him (as you said yourself).

And a fan is not allowed to criticise the people they admire? Should we just follow them blindly and assume they're perfect? Just wondering.

I once sat in a restraunt and a friend asked the waitress if she'd send the condiments back to the kitchen.

A few minutes later the chef came out to thank us for the compliments asking if there was anything in particular that impressed us, I said its certainly not the staffs ability to understand WTF we actually said:laugh:

Gavin:

“It is a personal attack...You know what you meant, don't try and change it”

Yes, I do know what I meant. It’s a standard piece of English to respond to two points made with two respective counterpoints. Ask any expert on language. Frankly, though, it’s pretty common and straightforward English.

For instance, if you said “If John invites you to his party, will you go?”, I might reply “Well, he hasn’t, so I'm not”.

If anything, for you to continue accusing me after I’ve clarified matters and edited for you out of courtesy, AND to imply that I'm a liar, now that IS a personal attack! But I won’t take it to heart!

By the way, I'm struggling to understand why, if I’d wanted to “attack” you, I’d have edited it at all!

Okay, let me make this clear.

I said:

"He hasnt done anything important"

You said:

"Yes he has, you havent"

I replied:

"Why the personal attack?"

You replied:

"It wasnt"

And you're trying to change it, I'm failing to see where your going with your point, but I'll drop it since it's going nowhere.

brandstifter 31-08-2008 12:31 PM

“Okay, let me make this clear. I said: ‘He hasnt done anything important’ …"

And you're trying to change it, I'm failing to see where your going with your point, but I'll drop it since it's going nowhere.”

OK, let ME make this clear:

Now who’s “trying to change it”? You said - and I quote - "if he's done anything that important I'm sure I would know, but I don't." Those were your exact words, NOT "He hasnt done anything important". So I was answering YOUR second point with MY second point. Sorry, but that’s very basic English.

I reiterate: if I’d wanted to offend you, I wouldn’t have changed it when you informed me that you didn’t like it. Would I? But instead of thanking me for being courteous and considerate, you’re still attacking me, wrongly accusing me, misquoting me AND calling me a liar. Believe me, if I wanted to insult you, you’d know. But I don’t.

Now I'm going to ask politely – please leave me alone now.

Goodbye

Why did you phrase it "I'm sorry but he has, you haven't" if you were answering my second point, which was that I've never heard of him?
