I was enthralled from start to finish. I could not take my eyes off the screen for anything. I just omg.
Elizabeth Banks as Effie was absolutely spot on. She made me laugh so much. The guy who played Haymitch was equally fantastic. As was Cinna. All the supporting cast were almost exactly what I imagined from the book.
The scenes of District 12 and the Capitol were also dead spits of what I'd pictured in my head. I didn't think they looked much like what I'd visualised before when I saw them in the trailer but in the actual movie, they're spot on.
I loved the sort f shift the film underwent from almost lighthearted to extreme seriousness as soon as Katniss emerged in the arena. The omission of noise during the bloodbath only made things all the more engaging. I was looking around to see what was going on. There wasn't much gore (thank God) but the suggestiveness of the actions of the tributes was probably much worse than seeing blood go everywhere.
The tracker jackers scared the sh!te outta me (I have a phobia of wasps/bees). And the hallucination scenes were pretty damn good.
When Rue came into it fully I just started feeling so sad. When Katniss got back to her (after blowing up the Careers' food), and she was speared I almost broke down. If I was on my own I would've been in floods of tears. It was so utterly heart breaking. The singing just exacerbated it all. When they added in that scene of District 11 rioting after, it just made things even more poignant - such a brilliant idea to bring that in.
The cave scenes were also excellent. The 'feast' at the Cornucopia, was again, exactly how I pictured it.
The mutts were utterly terrifying. The little speech Cato made was real sad too.
I think the ending could've been better. They didn't show Katniss putting down Peeta. I thought that was pretty vital tbh. That was my only real discrepancy with the whole film though.
Oh and the way they weaved in the actions of the game makers was fantastic.
