I had a lecturer last year who took a class where the translation was speaking about this company that sold custom made bags, like hand bags, rucksacks etc... and there was the word to describe the front pocket and we all just translated it as flap, because we don't have any specific words for it in English, like if you have a bag that has a bit of material which folds over and clasps at the front, you'd call that a flap, right?
But this lecturer... she just kept going on about flaps... because she was like "what would you call that? A flap? Flap is a bit of a loose translation, what else would you call it? Just a flap? But that's so loose, flap..." etc and omg I just burst into hysterical tears of laughter and actually said "oh my God please stop" and like half the class was in tears and she was just adamant there was another word for it... :laugh3:
