Entitled colleagues. Move from me!

People that sip tea loudly...hush up!

Redway 09-10-2024 05:12 PM

People making you feel like a demon for not liking dogs (no, I’m not talking about Brian Griffin, obvs). Like everything-else, people have their preferences. It’s not a crime to find dogs annoying any more than it is to be semi-phobic of spiders.

When articles have loads and loads of ads and you can't even read the page properly or prevent yourself from accidentally clicking on an ad!!! And some of them you can't even x out of the way anymore!

Just putting this out there for anyone who thinks depression is a mild mental illness. Try visiting an ECT ward where there are people with Cotard’s syndrome hallucinating hell fire and believing they don’t exist, that the Earth’s been sucked into an existence-sucking vacuum, all-the-while without having eaten for a month. This is what we talk about when we say severe depression. I can’t stress that enough. There’s a difference between ‘mild depression and anxiety x’ that’s at a level where ignorant people believe they can just pull themselves out of it and all the difference shades of serious, endogenous depression that’s moderate to severe. The first type of depression is the type that the general public who have no idea how severe it can be at the other end of the spectrum understand it. That’s almost nothing compared to real depression. Even the next step from mild depression is suicide, and people feeling like they want to out themselves should absolutely be given love and support, but for those who stay alive it doesn’t end there. Likewise, at one end of the depressive-treatment regime-spectrum is citalopram and at the other end is tranylycpromine and ECT. There’s a massive range of types, symptoms and severities and the treatment reflects that.

And I’m never gonna be fully rested on this topic until ignorance about depression is fully squished out. Educate people on the severity of it and not just the fact that talking helps and it’s not just a matter of willpower. So it is worth repeating.

Being accused of things and then when you answer back, that person goes hiding away.

Let's just say that experience isn't fun.

Big Brother being on ITVX this year, actually. That doesn’t help with the feeling of it being such a different show these days and not for the better. Haven’t really sat down to get glued up on it yet (just a few episodes here-and-there) but yeah. It’s just odd that it’s on ITVX (a very non-user-friendly app in the first place) now.

You mean like when you’re telling the truth but the person never believes you?

The person just ignores you after accusing you of something that you don't believe yourself to be.

Right.

Happen to you recently, did it?

You could certainly say that.

What about you, have you experienced anything similar recently?

Erm. I suppose I have been in the position where it’s been my word against someone-else’s and I haven’t been fully believed but that was quite a few months ago now. It wasn’t super-recent.

Ultimately it was about something very trivial. Nothing that deep, but either way I still wasn’t fully believed, whatever happened next.

Okay, I can understand that as I have experienced that recently.

I'm still okay with the person, but I won't tolerate that behaviour towards me again.

The amount of unnecessary cutaways on Family Guy can be hella annoying, still.

“Yeah, I thought he was black, still; just with one white parent, innit.”

Abeg, black is black and mixed race is mixed race. They are not the same thing at all. When you’re 3/4 black it’s a different story but when you’re exactly 50-50, that’s what you are. A lot of purely white people do it as a subconscious relic from the one-drop rule principle, which is inherently racist. You won’t accept them as your own so of course they have to be black. Same goes for quadroons (and by extension probably even octoroons, people who are only 1/8 black) who look closer to mixed race than black being forced by white people to identify as black. So racist. So inherently, disgustingly racist and white hegemonic. Many more people than you know are mixed with something/have backgrounds that are somewhat or at least a little heterogenous. What they choose to identify as is a very personal, individual thing. Mixed-race people are not inherently black just because the average white person says so. Having a Jamaican great-aunt and a like of plantain doesn’t inherently mean “yeah, you’re basically black”.

Anyway, that one ain’t a little ting.

Tbf, there are some mixed race people out there that do like to identify as black.

To me I just like to try and focus on the person rather than on the colour of their skin, unless it's under a scenario where I have to describe the person's appearance.

Loads of people consider themselves to be black if they have one parent though - their choice I suppose

You beat me to it although I wrote this about 4 hours ago and didn’t press REPLY. I initially thought my post had been deleted …

I'm quite chill really, most things wash over me. But some little inconsequential things do irk me somewhat, like when people don't end sentences with full stops. Sometimes emojies are used instead ("even" by me!) but leaving the last sentence just hanging looks horrible.

Redway 15-10-2024 07:03 PM

Seriously, Peter Griffin being the protagonist of Family Guy. It’s offensive.

Redway 17-10-2024 04:02 PM

The end of Lily Allen’s “Interlude”. What’s that about?

Maru 21-10-2024 11:52 PM

I bought two very nice (and light!) 48oz water bottles to apply name decals to for my inlaws who are coming to visit soon. I saw them on clearance and thought that would be a good idea for them while they were here. Anyway, I go to peel back the labeling which is substantial and it's CAKED in adhesive... so now I"m sitting here to roll it away with my thumb and it's very annoying. I'll have to clean it really good before I can apply the vinyl...

Redway 22-10-2024 01:36 AM

Ali, you had the opportunity to say to Lily up-front that you (along-wit. t. rest of t’house) find her screaming annoying. Why lie to her face after saying you were gonna talk to her (regardless of nominations)?
