Mel, Lisa and Ray's podcast storyline...

Spoiler:

Mel and Lisa are in Portugal (2003) and Mel tells Lisa that every time she sees baby Hunter, she sees Steve. She then locks herself in a room and Lisa is worried. Mel opens the door and says she couldn't go through with killing herself. Lisa helps her by sending her to a rehab center for 20 days.

In a group therapy session, she meets Ray who is there since during his job as a policeman he killed someone and felt guilty. Afterwards, he formally meets Mel and they bond over horse riding. Mel asks someone for his room number and she pops by - they end up sleeping with each other.

After the 20 days, Lisa tells Mel she's much happier than ever and warns her not to go after another 'messed up man'. On their next date, Ray has a panic attack since he thought he saw the guy he killed, and Mel calms him down. Mel asks him to come back with her and meet Hunter. Ray tells Lisa that his sister's (Ciara's) baby had passed away. Lisa tells Ray about her thug ex (Phil) taking her baby Louise and Ray tells her he will try and get her back from Phil.

Ray realises someone is following him - his wife, Nicola, hired a private investigator who thought he was having an affair. Ray offers to pay him off so his wife doesn't find out but he refuses to accept. Ray tracks down his house and chucks him over the balcony, killing him. Ray then goes to Mel and even though it had only been 6 weeks, proposes to Mel - she accepts.

Can I ask why all the actual stories happen offscreen in EastEnders the last few years?

Some variation of this unfolding ONSCREEN in the present could have been excellent and given Ray around 2-3 years of plot and become a decent villain for the show.

I really don't get it.

Marsh. 28-12-2018 12:04 AM

I forgot someone is actually supposed to be dying for real.

We love a murder!

Spoiler:

I think Maddie is going to end up dead and Mel is going to get pulled into helping Ray cover it up somehow. She then panics and tries to expose it in the New Year leading Ray to get Hunter arrested.

All this on screen would have been FANTASTIC.

Why the hell wouldn’t they give us ANY of this on screen :laugh2:

Marsh. 28-12-2018 01:30 AM

Poor Tamzin Outhwaite paid DUST!

The only way to save this is to have Miss Lisa storm into the wedding on NYD.

Rob! 28-12-2018 01:32 AM

I feel like I wouldn’t have known about the wedding if I hadn’t read it on here.
I’m intrigued to see where the storyline goes but I feel Ray is too interesting a character to dispose of just yet. That IS mainly down to the fact that the actor is probably better than the character though.

Marsh. 28-12-2018 01:45 AM

They've given him nothing to work with.

It feels like they've changed their minds on what storyline they want to tell with Mel about 4 or 5 times so it feels like she hasn't gone anywhere in 12 months.

He had a pretty good introduction in his first episode, they've ignored Mel's history with Portugal/Lisa/Louise (has she even had scenes with Louise in months?) and, most stupid of all, forgotten the backstory of Ray's they set up themselves only in January.

I wonder if the show was always this haphazard and it's just more noticeable now.

Marsh. 28-12-2018 01:46 AM

Also, I think the show should broadcast in two hour long episodes a week (maybe Tuesday and Thursday?) and take July and August off?

Make it darker and speed up the pace a tad?

Though I suppose it would be a bit like an American show then, where the show returns in September and all of the cast are bright orange from their 2 month summer holidays. :hehe:

Marsh. 28-12-2018 06:10 PM

"Oh, God!"

"What?"

"Phil! He's seen everything, innit?"

---

"His absent father's eyes, but we can forgive him for that! Can't we?"

:laugh2:
