I'm fairly positive I'm going to love it too.

Ammi 11-02-2013 06:50 PM

..Perks Of Being A Wallflower.....it gets an extra point for playing 'Heroes' twice....9/10...

django - 7/10

was ok. not quite what i hoped though. very talky talky

argo 7/10

was a lot better than i expected as not really my type of movie. very tence, decent movie

piranna -7/10

Locke. 13-02-2013 04:11 PM

Martha Marcy Mae Marlene - 6/10

Really interesting story and some great acting especially from Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes. Liked the ending a lot aswell that is how I would want to end a film if I made one.

Lee. 13-02-2013 04:13 PM

Chronicle - 6/10 a lot of ****e really but watchable

Once Were Warriors - 8/10 brilliant film but quite depressing.

Niall 15-02-2013 07:32 PM

Warm Bodies - 3/10. I was really disappointed by this. I'd heard so much about how good it was but in reality the film was muddled and cheesy. I mean when it was comedic the whole thing worked, but the romance detracted from that and it just ugh it felt so corny. The special effects were absolutely dire too. On the whole I just think it's massively overrated, but seeing as it was adapted by Summit, I'll give the book the benefit of a doubt.

Flight (2012)

Great reviews, but so over the top that incredulity was not just strained but broken ..... :hmph:

The mid-air crisis and subsequent crash-landing was very realistic, tho scarcely believeable, but later on when the pilot's alcohol level was "revealed" as 0.24 my jaw dropped to the floor ..... :amazed:

I was married to an alcoholic and I know that alcoholics can function on extraordinary levels of alcohol, but a BAC of 0.18-0.25 would mean the pilot would be disoriented, confused, dizzy, and have exaggerated emotional states.

Vision would be disturbed, as would be perception of colour, form, motion, and dimensions.

The pilot would have an increased pain threshold and a lack of muscular coordination.

The pilot would stagger or lose the ability to walk and have slurred speech.

Apathy and lethargy wouid be typical.

The pilot couldn't even drive a car let alone fly a plane.

I let the movie roll on, but when the pilot restarted drinking (and driving with a quart of vodka and beer chasers) I lost interest on this OTT time-waster ..... :bored:

Shame

The acting performances were excellent (well, Mulligan and Fassbender were the only two main characters really), and I loved the mood and pace of it, but it was lacking something.

Spoiler:

The characters (brother and sister) had this weird history and connection ("We come from a bad place") that was never explored and whilst it added to the intrigue about them, it sort of blocked me being able to warm to the characters on an emotional level. The ending with Mulligan's character slitting her wrists seemed to prompt Fassbender's character to have a breakdown (again, suggesting they both had pent up problems and history), and that seemed to heal his sex addiction - what with the final shot - but I dunno, I think the movie was just lacking closure.

That said, it had a lot of Fassbenderwang so it's worth a watch. 8/10. (I'm not this shallow it was a good movie overall)

The Dark Knight Rises - Really liked this one, probably my favourite of the 3 8/10

..it took me a little while to understand it all at the beginning..but once it started to be explained, I loved the story..it always helps when you know what's going on lol...

Avengers Assemble 3D - really enjoyed it, but it was a little too long for my liking

Taken 2 - it was alright, but the directing was dreadful the fighting scenes and the car chase scenes changed shot literally every 3 seconds so you had no idea what the **** was going on

Livia 18-02-2013 06:06 PM

Skyfall. Waited so long to see it and it was worth the wait. I loved it. 9.5/10

A Perfect Getaway - 6/10

Surprisingly pretty good, wasn't expecting much from it when I stumbled across it on channel 5. A surprising twist for once aswell, usually get onto them really early.

All very good and I loved the cast, and the story did grip me... but the film didn't wow me in the same sense that Django Unchained or Les Miserables did. So I'd rather they won Best Picture. Still a great movie though - 9/10.

A movie (barely) "based" on fact which proved surprisingly enjoyable - obviously the role of the CIA, and specifically Mendez, was the focus of the film so much of the detail was lost but, apart from the unnecessary Arkin/Goodman, the actors were believable, the pace excellent and the tension engaging.

I love you Philip Morris, with Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Brilliant! :worship:

This was an easy one for me too, in contrast to the less remarkable Solace. 9/10. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - great film, not one bit what I was expecting, so much better. 9/10

The Impossible - again good film, great acting 8/10...

Skyfall - expected to hate it as not a Bond fan but OH wanted to watch it....how wrong, loved it! 9/10

Also watched the Black Sheep/Tommy Boy duo again this week from the mid 90s, with my daughter, who loves that slapstick action as a kid. How can you not laugh at Chris Farley tumbling down half of a mountain, taking a break, thinking he's safe, and then going for another few rounds? Or the snide remarks of David Spade? Or fat guy in a little suit? etc, etc. Only had to hide the audio for a few scenes, but both movies are fairly tame. Black Sheep 5/10, because it pales in comparison after watching the much more amusing and aggressive Tommy Boy(7/10), which is always a joy.

And it's a damned shame that Farley isn't around anymore. His cartwheels, country language in place of poor language, and physically eventful tantrums replete with hysterics will be missed. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/p...ntial/weep.gif

Dirty Harry - Shockingly never seen it but absolutely loved it! 10/10

Lee. 22-02-2013 10:41 PM

Scent of a Woman 9/10 Never seen this before and although it started off a bit slow, I absolutely adored it. I thought Pacino was wonderful.

Bridesmaids 7/10 NOT my kind of film at all, but I laughed like a drain most of the way through it

Niall 22-02-2013 10:51 PM

Flight - 5/10. I wasn't sure about this one from the outset and I wouldn't have gone to see it myself, but my Mum was pestering me to go with her so I relented. The trailer put me off it and the majority of the movie I didn't like. From the trailer I was expecting some sort of courtroom drama centred around Denzel Washington's character avoiding a sentencing for improper conduct or something. And whilst the movie did centre around that, I did not expect it to be focusing so heavily on addiction throughout, and how Whip (Washington's character) overcomes it. I just thought it was poorly handled and crude wherever his alcoholism and drug abuse was involved anyway. The only part which wowed me was the crash sequence near the beginning because it's so gripping and terrifying, but it kinda outshines the rest of the film because it's just on another level of quality I thought. The rest of it seemed to drag and plod along.
