Not sure why Khaled was so offended and pissy by what Sarah said. I love Khaled but it was clearly a joke, and also not offensive in the slightest.

Cherie 04-11-2024 01:20 PM

Yeah a joke, not sure why he is so annoyed...

I get it. Maybe it's my bias showing but, to me, she called him cold, aloof, narcissistic and superior. Even as a joke that's going to cut - especially as someone he's supposedly close to.

If you think it should have come across as a joke, also look at Ali and especially Hanah's reaction to it.

…I came to post the vid but I’ve changed the title…

If he wants to read that deeply into it he needs to get a backbone. She was clearly joking as she even refers to herself and everyone else as peasants.

…I think for me it’s one of those vids that I’m going to have to see more of …I mean, it wasn’t complimentary exactly for Emma either…I do like nderstand that he might feel offended but saying that he needed distance when Sarah is trying to clear the air just feels childish…and maybe it makes what she said have more substance in that moment because he is acting quite aloof…

Benjamin 04-11-2024 01:33 PM

Yeah it’s hard to know fully from a sneak peak but given their outfits Sarah is a rose with thorns (I think) so I imagine her task was to read the housemates with some kind of backhanded compliment (nice but prickly) from what we’ve seen

It's how he deals with things - he did the same with Hanah last week. When he feels upset about something he wants space to process it before facing it. Even with Nathan he seemed to come down from the mezzanine to speak to him, as though he was keeping out of the way for a bit.

Is it the best way of handling things? Arguable. But I can see why he does it.

It was a task about how housemates could become roses, so Sarah was asked to provide guidance to each. To me, Emma's came across as a joke but Khaled's didn't. Even if she intended it to be.

He finds Sarah
too much.

It is her manner

Do we know that’s exactly what her task was?

Personally if some said that to me (especially a friend) I wouldn’t be offended in the slightest.

bots 04-11-2024 01:43 PM

it's called being offended for the camera

To say how people could become 'roses'.

Seeing it from her point of view, she may have been trying to stick her tongue in cheek and roast him, with no harm intended.

From his point of view he has been labelled fake by Ali, Lily and Nathan - not sure if he is aware of the latter two - called out by Emma (someone else he was close to) for looking in the mirror, and now labelled as superior and self-absorbed by a friend in front of group of people, some of whom have real doubts about his character.

If he is being over-sensitive - I personally don't think he is but fair enough - then I can see why.

…yeah, I understand that …but that might also have the feeling of him being quite an all of person by feeling that rather than address, he wants to distance and isolate in that moment of someone trying to open communication with him and talk about what’s on his mind…it’s a bit of a revolve, really…

Yes, I can see that. I do go back to the live feed conversation he has, I think it was Emma, a couple of weeks back where he explained he used to fly off the handle and react without thinking, and how he went through a lot of behavioural management, of which boxing played a part, so I imagine this could be part of it - controlling himself rather than saying something he would regret. I don't know how many others in the house have heard that from him. Nothing has been shown on the HLs.

Maru 04-11-2024 02:00 PM

Sarah was giving good advice overall and I don't think what she said "sounds" wrong. His reaction certainly made it seem like it hit too close to home... I don't think she meant it the way Ali called him fake, like in an accusatory way. And I think all said and done, of the people who would issue blunt advice to him, she's one of the better people to do it and I like that she just says it how it is...

…we just don’t get to see so many interesting conversations, I feel…and I do understand that it’s his way to step back from something and not have THAT conversation until he’s ready to…I don’t in any way lay any criticism or fault or anything for that…but trying to look at it from both sides now…(…thank you, Joni Mitchell……)…it’s also seeing how that could convey at times as a type of aloofness …a distancing…?… that may translate as ivory tower type behaviour…and as Ben said earlier …being a rose with a thorn, it may have been that the task involved Sarah to purposefully inject that thorn into her descriptives…and in that clip it didn’t feel ‘too much’ like Dean said about her in another task…I mean, she didn’t even seem to realise that she was the one who had upset his vibe…?…so it obviously wasn’t something that she said with any negativity and when we try to understand one person, we surely have to also try to understand the other…and how she would have felt with the realisation that she was the one who upset him but he refused to talk about it…

I think it was the forum it was delivered in, and possibly because she said nothing along those lines to him before (going by his shocked face afterwards). The advise as possibly reasonably, but the words chosen weren't. Maybe I'm an over-sensitive person too, but if a friend said that to me it would hurt. Especially if I missed the jokey tone.

Oh it would still hurt. But I think it could help him overall if he listens to her advice... so it's coming from an OK enough place.

It's better than the other question "Who would you chuck out the backdoor if you had the chance?"

Yes, I'm willing to accept that Sarah thought Khaled would take it with a pinch of salt and was surprised when he didn't. But I'm willing to accept that Khaled had a valid reason not to take it with a pinch of salt either, so it's almost six of one, half-a-dozen of another. Perhaps it can be explained as a massive misunderstanding between how it was given and how it was received. For me, the ivory tower/peasants line was the issue - as I said, particularly as, according to Sarah, Khaled's always been there for her when she's upset, so he must come down from it sometimes.
