Hollyoaks actor Emmett J Scanlan doesn't think Brendan Brady is cut out to be a good dad.

The bad boy's teenage son Declan returns to the village next week after running away from his mum in Ireland and when Brendan struggles to keep him in check, he feels a failure.

Emmett told Inside Soap magazine: "Brendan has this incredibly empty feeling inside. He's trying to be a good father, but he simply can't do it.

"He can't change the person he really is."

Brendan loves his son and he wants to set him a good example, but it is a real struggle.

Emmett said: "It's flattering for Brendan that Declan's come running back. But he obviously has to make it clear to Declan that what he did was wrong, and that he doesn't condone his actions in any way.

"In fact Brendan and his sister Cheryl plan to send Declan right back to his mother - but in the end, they don't have the heart to do that to him."

Brendan was awesome in tonight's E4 episode, plays a good game of footy so he does...

Emmett seems to really enjoy being in the show but I do think he will leave at some point, which I am actually dreading when he decides when the time is right:(.

It's one of those things you know will happen, yet you hope it's going to last forever. It will be a dark day on Hollyoaks if Emmett quits.

Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox has expressed her excitement over future plans for her character Nancy Hayton.

The actress, who has been playing Nancy since 2005, recently landed a new deal to stay with the show for the foreseeable future.

Fox told Inside Soap: "I've just signed a new contract, so I'm sticking around for the time being. I get spoilt with really good plots - and what's coming up is, in my opinion, Nancy's biggest storyline.

"It will be a big year for Nancy and Darren, so I'm very excited."

The 28-year-old added that she was glad to see Nancy moving into The Dog with the Osborne clan at the end of last year. She had previously been living at the Osbornes' house for a few months.

Asked to name her favourite place to film, Fox replied: "It used to be Nancy's flat - I was devastated when we had to move out. Our head of design said I could take anything I wanted, so I auctioned Nancy's freaky doll clock for the charity Breast Cancer Care.

"Nancy's actually moved into the pub with the rest of the Osbornes now, and it's very 'her'."

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with a first look screening at 7pm on E4.

Great news that Jessica Fox has signed a new contract and it looks like we will be seeing the Nancy storyline that was dropped last year this year instead:).

Dennis annoyed me as soon as he first appeared in the village, but he did make me laugh a few times on last night's E4 episode.

Could there be a slight chance I will grow to like him...?

Nancy is great and I miss her in her flat. That said I'm really pleased she's moved into the pub and that she's getting a big story. Fun times ahead..

Think so as he is intended to be a light humoured and fun character...

Good news for Nancy, they need to get them out the pub though

Oh I get the intention, I just think Hollyoaks have an habit of trying too hard at times. I prefer humour they have with Brendan, Foxy, Darren and Dodger.

Don't usually care for the more OTT characters like Lee, Duncan and now Dennis.

Carmel is a character that can be hilarious, but sometimes it feels too forced, like they are trying too hard.

Do you get what I mean ?

Dennis was hilarious tonight I actually laughed out loud :joker:

It was the dancing and singing along to the music that sent me over the edge

Neil's just there to make up the numbers, He's painfully boring and he'll undoubtedly be written out of it before long. It's the same with Barney, they are this year's Jamil.

Hollyoaks newcomer Mandip Gill has revealed the first details of her role as homeless teen Phoebe on the soap.

As reported at the weekend, Phoebe is currently sharing a squat with sixth former George Smith (Steven Roberts) as neither have anywhere else to go.

Hollyoaks introduces Phoebe in upcoming episodes as George's fellow student Callum Kane (Laurie Duncan) discovers the truth about his living arrangements.

When Callum later starts hanging around the squat, Phoebe becomes nervous - wanting him to stay away and stop interfering.

Gill told TV Times of her character: "She's streetwise. Whereas George is new to all this, she has done it for a long time. While Callum is a good friend of George's, in her eyes anyone from the 'outside' is trouble.

"She fears being grassed up. She doesn't want to go into care and she doesn't want to be separated from George. He and her dog Thunder are all she has."

When George has a falling-out with Phoebe, he ends up deciding to live on his own. However, Phoebe feels guilty as she knows that George hasn't been feeling well lately - so she has to ask Callum for help.

"By this point, George is very ill and she knows it'd be on her conscience if anything happened to him," Gill added.

I think i might actually cry when Brendan goes without being biased i think he is the greatest soap character ever

Has Emma the knew producer said anything about sorting the titles out

Visage 12-01-2012 08:19 AM

I really feel for poor George, what a good little actor he is. It was great to see Callum back him up. I'm loving the awkward stuff between Jono and Ruby.

InOne 12-01-2012 02:47 PM

Callum has become a lot more likeable lately. Although it's a bit weird he's started hanging around with them all now. I think all the good teens stuff goes to pot when Maddie comes back though :joker:

I too was puzzled by how much Callum was a friend to the rest of the guys, however I'm really enjoying them more now. They just took some getting into.

Jords 13-01-2012 06:34 PM

Im liking the short ending scenes with George - not offering a lot but being insightful with whats going on with him - really great job with that. Interested meeting Phoebe.

Visage 14-01-2012 02:33 PM

I'm really enjoying George's story, the actor is playing the part well, he really makes his story that more believable.

InOne 14-01-2012 02:35 PM

Not enough Lynsey :idc: Why give her a massive storyline like Silas only to make her go back to Cheryl's quiet pretty friend. Lynsey is much better than all them lot.

bbfan1991 14-01-2012 11:30 PM

I am liking George more and we are actually beginning to get to know the sixth formers as individuals now and seeing better characterisation.

I agree too that we are not seeing enough Lynsey, although I heard she is going to feature in Cheryl and Mercedes' new storylines. Lynsey needs her own storyline now!

Ooh Darren being tempted back into gambling by Brendan. I wonder if this is the start of a new friendship in the village?

Visage 14-01-2012 11:33 PM

Oh I really hope Darren doesn't go down that route again, it's so destructive and very rarely do gamblers win...:(
