Yay, someone else finds S2 overrated!

I'm nearing the end of TAR10, and I've noticed that the editing this season is rather "hmm, they've shown of all but one of the teams in confessionals, cheerily talking about what we're currently seeing them do in the past tense, often in locations we haven't seen yet. I wonder who's leaving this week!"... never change, CBS, never change!

(and if I had a dollar for each time they've used the exact same "come on, Lynette" soundbite, I'd be richer than everyone who's ever won this show combined)

Mess I hate that the started doing that, it's so obvious now in almost every season who goes home in each ep because they show like 9 out of 10 teams talking in broad daylight during their confessionals (filmed the next morning) and 1 team talking in the dark at night (filmed the night of their elimination)

Quick pre-All Stars ranking (and by "pre-All Stars" I mean "I remembered to do this ten minutes into the first episode"):

Spoiler:

Charla & Mirna
Oswald & Danny
Teri & Ian

David & Mary
Joe & Bill

Dustin & Kandice
Eric & Danielle
Uchenna & Joyce
Rob & Amber
Kevin & Drew
John Vito & Jill

Brenchal u-turning Dave and Connor leaving them fuming and the rest turning on them like sheeps

It's pretty ridiculous how they turned on Brenchal because they did that, it's a competition and Dave and Connor are threats  Leo & Jamal had no beef with Brenchal but turned on them because of Dave and Connor :s Brenchal are in it to win and not to play happy families like the rest.. It was pretty hilarious Brenchal was mentioned 5000 times by the sheeps on the next episode. Dave and Connor would have probably u-turned them if they had the chance.

Late to the party as ever, I just finished bingeing TAR29 (having known... let's say a couple of spoilers beforehand), and I have ranked the pairs thusly:

Brooke & Scott
Brooke & the spirit of Flo Pesenti which possessed her for the entirety of the race

Vanck & Ashton
Becca & Floyd
Shamir & Sara
Tara & Joey
Shamir's right ball & Shamir's left ball
Jessie & Francesca
London & Logan
Kevin & Jenn

Seth & Olive
Tara & telling people she was in the army at every given opportunity
Liz & Michael
Matt & Redmond

Joey & telling everyone he's from Boston at every given opportunity

MB. 16-06-2019 01:11 AM

TAR30:

Alex & Conor
Lucas & Brittany

Cody & Jessica
Henry & Evan
Kristi & Jen
April & Sarah
Cedric & Shawn

Trevor & Chris
Eric & Daniel
Joey & Tim
Dessie & Kayla
(only because they had a total of maybe three minutes of airtime tops?)

but better than them all was this one politely exasperated Zimbabwean instructor  I hope she comes back for All-Stars with the Bahraini pottery guy

Midsommar (2019)

TAR12:

Ronald & Christina (the much-hyped Renaissance of Ron being a season-long transition from calling his daughter fat and pushing her off a bike onto the road to… not pushing her into a taxi like Nate & Jen? a hernia playing a bigger part in the narrative of the season than TK & Rachel )
Nathan & Jennifer (their Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in Dubrovnik  Jennifer getting attacked by a chihuahua five minutes into the leg in Mumbai  Jennifer turning into a classic reality TV emotional birthday terrorist in Taipei  "the best team’s gonna finish last and that’s us" "...finish last?! ")
Kynt & Vyxsin
Shana & Jennifer ("I’m sorry I nearly just got killed by a bus I guess I need to calm down " <3<3<3 when will your faves?) (also the show tried remarkably hard to make their decision to U-Turn Lorena & Jason out to be a strategically poor one, when in actuality it... wasn’t) (although I’m not sure whether or not it’s a generally accepted theory that they just mistook TK & Rachel for Lorena & Jason at the U-Turn mat, because I feel as though that’s what happened. Still, not even the dumbest U-Turn decision of the season)
Azaria & Hendekea
Nicolas & Donald (a third-boot team making the final leg via sheer luck and a tattoo they didn’t even need to get  Nicolas being passive to everyone, including his 70-year old grandfather, the entire season, only to turn around in the penultimate leg and decry everyone in the race for being bitches and pansies, including himself )
Lorena & Jason
Kate & Pat (‘married lesbian grandma church ministers’ is a casting archetype this show would be much poorer without )
Marianna & Julia
TK & Rachel (repeatedly stating that your strategy is to be as boring as possible is one thing, but putting it into practice by always being so far behind or ahead of the other teams that you never allow for the possibility of engaging in inter-team drama is another)
Ari & Staella (lol)

I appreciated this season because for all its efforts to bring in new twists and mark a new, post-All Stars era of the show, it still felt very old school in its jankiness (any time a team finished first and Phil would be like "congratulations, you’ve won a bike with three wheels!" when they were expecting a holiday to the Maldives  That leg where they had to carry a chicken with them at all times for no particular reason  The leg where you could obviously tell which team was going home because their confessionals were filmed at the pit stop, when everyone else’s were filmed in the hotel courtyard  The leg where production decided they were sick of these punk ass teams and attempted to drown them, drive them off a teetering bridge, burn their feet and make them run into fireworks )

p.s. lol at this being the shot of the winners they chose to freeze frame at the end, how poetically bland:

Omg I've been meaning to rewatch 12 but can't remember how good it was (all I remember is just adoring Ron & Christina [one of my Top 10 teams ever] and Azaria & Hendekea )

Did you enjoy it?

I did, yeah! I was a little dubious as to whether or not I would at first, as it was the first old school season I'd watched in a while, and there were a few little things in the premiere that made me wonder if TAR was beginning to jump the shark by this point (namely the starting line being the Playboy Mansion and Ari's general... vibe), but luckily it quickly began to feel like the classic TAR I'd come to know and the cast turned out to be really strong. It wasn't the most fast-paced season in terms of leg structure (they didn't leave Europe/western Africa until leg 8, for example), and it could absolutely have used some non-eliminations earlier on, but I thought it was still pretty solid and definitely holds up against previous classic era seasons!

Above all, I'm just really glad that the season ended in an eight-team tie win for Ron & Christina, Nate & Jen, Kynt & Vyxsin, Shana & Jennifer, Azaria & Hendekea, Nicolas & Don, Lorena & Jason and Kate & Pat, instead of ending with any other potential outcome

Headie 07-07-2019 11:42 PM

Omg for some reason I thought Kynt & Vyxsin were on a different season... I absolutely ADORE them  One of my all time favourite teams ever <333

Yeah I'm definitely rewatching **** it!

In return I... might actually finally watch TAR8? #AgeOfTheWeavers

Headie 08-07-2019 12:14 AM

I don't think I ever completed 8 you know, that's another I need to watch but I watched like one ep ages ago and gave up when it felt too unfamiliar to the usual TAR format and also because the black family got booted first lmao <3

MB. 08-07-2019 12:39 AM

And from what I gather from my limited knowledge of TAR8, the black family are actually called The Black Family, which just feels too on-the-nose even for a reality TV show

Valmafra 08-07-2019 08:31 AM

I wonder how both of you will feel about the rest of FE's F6...

...personally:

Weavers > Bransens > Gaghans > Paolos = Godlewskis > Linzes

Macie Lightfoot 08-07-2019 11:15 AM

Reggie Black, Kimberly Black, Kenneth Black, and Austin Black are a team of Dad, Mom and Kids on The Amazing Race: Family Edition.

They were remembered mostly for the unfortunate implications of their last name.

Just rewatched the first ep of 12, I forgot about the donkeys that refused to move <3333

Ari & Staella have to have one of the most negative edits ever for first boots :skull: From stealing sweetheart Ron & Christina's taxi to finishing dead last lmao

Headie 08-07-2019 02:29 PM

Ron snapping at Nick for being rude to the ticket lady

"You're grandpa is the good cop, you're the BAD COP!"

Headie 08-07-2019 02:35 PM

I can't find it from google but I wonder if Azaria & Christina are still together  I love that they met on the show and got married afterwards <3 And had a kid too I think

Headie 08-07-2019 03:05 PM

The Kid Nation promos at the end of each ep also remind me that I need to get round to watching that too
