I'm not convinced that Swinney isn't just more of the same thing, and it feels like a frustrating indication that they really think Yousaf's unpopularity and reason the SNP has been tanking is down to the "stuff with the Greens" which it clearly is not. People also oversimplify it as being about "gender issues" as well and I don't think it's that either.

The issue that's tanking the SNP, is that Scotland actually does (and always has) had a strong sense of social justice -- by which I mean, REAL social justice. Social consequences. You act like a ****ing idiot and people will tell you so/joke about it/take the piss and that person is then free to return fire... safe in the knowledge that they can have a bit of aggressive/"offensive" back and forth without the government stepping in and the police turning up at people's doors.

That's it. That's what people want. That's a fundamental part of Scottish culture and IMO a good part of it. The loss of that is what people are voting against. The SNP does not seem to realise that at all.

i think Swinney will basically give the greens what they want to get the majority back. It's not good for Scotland

I think they're underestimating the extent to which they'll need a lot more than the Greens to keep a majority. Their popularity has plummeted, I'd estimate it's worse than the Tories' situation south of the border at this point. SNP had massive support and it's totally tanked. It'll tank even further if Labour do indeed sweep the board in England at the next GE ... because the SNP are partially bolstered by anti-Tory sentiment - Wee Nic for example leveraged Scottish dislike of Tories very often (and very effectively). If that "enemy" is out of play for a while that is a strategic "loss" for the SNP as well. Plenty of "new" (post-2008) SNP voters will flip back to Labour if they see Labour as a viable option.

My dad (who is 70) for example was a life-long Labour voter... my parents even used to have one of those little signs for the living room window. He's been SNP since Cameron entered No. 10 but I strongly suspect he'll happily flip back to Labour at the next GE.

the SNP also benefited in the past from labour being almost unelectable in england, so it was like a protest vote against the tories. If labour look like they are going to win, then it makes much morse sense to have as many scottish representatives within that party as they can, to increase the scottish influence

the labour leader up here is every bit as vile and deluded as useless

its not a good outlook

Upset by a cartoon.

Not so upset smiling next to a "decapitate terfs" sign.

Typical SNP.

politics and sport should never be a thing, that saying has always been a thing shouted by the people. You can go way back to the controversy over the british lions tour of south africa way back in the late sixties or early seventies or maybe early 80s.

Just cause tobacco companies can now sponsor sports doesnt mean sports fans should be getting political seeing as there forebears fought loud it for years

user104658 06-05-2024 10:39 AM

Oh aye never been any politics involved in the Old Firm. :joker:
