Same !!

He was so enigmatic and believable in that role .. I felt the same watching Travis Fimmel as Ragnar in Vikings and Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby

Those three portrayals stand out for me in recent years

And both Jonathan and Cillian are from Cork :hee: (well, I think JRM was born in Dublin but raised in Cork)

Oh I remember you mentioning that one, I still haven't watched it. In Burges is my favourite of Colin Farrells

The Barbie movie.
It was actually better than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed it. It was funny and engaging. A solid 8/10

Vanessa 11-09-2023 08:09 PM

Reservoir dogs. An absolute classic.
I love this movie so much! 01)10, would give 11 or 12 if I could!

M3gan - It wasn't for me tbh.

I liked Megan as a possible future Serial Killer icon within the Horror Movie catalogue, but unfortunately we were stuck with more of the "discuss our feelings" and cliched Family Drama segments that just dragged the Film down for me.

I think that I'm going to score the Film a 4/10

Niamh. 12-09-2023 08:19 AM

Birth/Rebirth - It was...........different, good though if a little gruesome in parts, interesting story/moral dilemma 7/10

Niamh. 19-09-2023 08:52 PM

Talk to Me : Really creepy 8/10

Vanessa 22-09-2023 04:07 PM

The Outsiders. One of my all time favourite movies, with a great cast.
The ending is so sad and heartbreaking :bawling:
10/10 easy

Insidious: Red Door

7/10, maybe 8?

It was well acted, and great directorial debut for Patrick Wilson.

Recap of relevant past movies:
Spoiler:

Dalton (eldest son) was an astral projector, and his spirit was being held captive in the astral realm. Spirits and demons were haunting the house, trying to possess his empty body.

Josh (the dad) had been an astral projector as a child, but an opportunist spirit of an evil drag queen had been trying to possess his body when it was empty during his astral trips, so he was hypnotised so he couldn't do it anymore.

His skill was unlocked, and his astral spirit went to rescue Dalton. But the tranny beat him back to his body, leaving Josh lost in the astral realm.

The drag queen used Josh's body to try and murder his wife and kids, but their psychic friend severed the tranny's connection to the real world, allowing Josh to re-take his own body.

Josh and Dalton were both hypnotised again so they could no longer astral project, and the family lived happily ever after.

I liked the lore in the new movie, and the continuation of the Lamberts' story- Josh was left jaded and distant by the hypnosis, and Dalton was afraid of the dark and moody.

Renee couldn't look at Josh without seeing the axe-wielding maniac, and despite being gaslit into thinking it had been a dream, their other son was traumatised and had night terrors.

When starting university, certain things start to unlock memories for Dalton, causing problems for both of them, dun dun DUUUUUNN ....

October is around the corner soon and the new Scorsese movie is coming.

3 and half hours long. I think I might need to buy some weed to get me through it. I've been off it for about two years but I've realised I can't enjoy movies without being stoned.

I don't know how you drug free people get through art without a little boost? It doesn't work for me.

You've just got to find Films that entertain you.

That's just easier said than done.

Murder on the Orient express. It was really good, I love Hercule Poirot.
The ending was unexpected, but I loved it.

Aliens (1986) but better quality 4K on Disney+

indeed visuals in 4K always so much more slick, neater than on DVD

remains a cool film too, one of the better sequels in any franchise ever made tbh

and the Xenomorphs are my fave monsters, wish i could have one as a pet, trained of course, makes a good guard ''dog'' i think

Tis a good sequel. Not as good as The Godfather part II, The Good, the bad and the ugly, The Empire Strikes back, Toy Story 3 or The Dark Knight. But good and definitely in their league

"Sound of Metal" (2019)

Me and Mrs Soldier randomly decided to watch this yesterday on a whim - exceptional film IMO. Very slow paced but not ever boring, brilliantly directed, really interesting cinematography especially sound design. The plot essentially is "An aspiring Metal drummer goes deaf" but the movie is packed with metaphors about love, co-dependence, addiction, acceptance and letting go... done in a way that's both clear and subtle at the same time - nothing feels preachy or shoehorned. 100% recommend.

user104658 29-09-2023 03:30 PM

I would add: may be randomly offensive to anyone with cochlear implants? :joker:

Niamh. 29-09-2023 03:32 PM

A Million Miles Away - It was a decent watch, true story type of film 6.5/10

user104658 02-10-2023 09:37 PM

"Talk To Me" (2022)

Interesting twist on the "ouija board" genre in that 1) it's an embalmed hand thing not a board and 2) it's an Australian movie... which makes a nice change from American and British accents on everything I guess.

I'd say a solid 7/10 in terms of horror films - I can be easily bored by them if they're too predictable. Definitely worth a watch.

Niamh. 03-10-2023 07:57 AM

Oh I watched that one a couple of weeks back, it was good, scary enough

user104658 05-10-2023 12:37 PM

Watched the live action Aladdin on Disney+ as youngest has taken a random liking to those Disney live action remakes :joker:. I actually quite enjoyed it for what it is. Jasmine sort of stole the show, Aladdin himself is fine but a bit flat, just not a leading actor tbh.

Will Smith was OK but Robin Williams is too much to expect anyone to live up to as the Genie. Will Smith was just blue Will Smith at the end of the day.

Songs were fun though and kids enjoyed it.

It's better than the live action Little Mermaid anyway, which they also enjoyed but I say was an absolute travesty! What did they do to Flounder??? I get making them a little more realistic but Sebastian was bad enough... Flounder... that's just a ****in' FISH.

The... err... head-banging scene(?) was pretty brutal :omgno:

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society - Imo the Show is better, but it's still a really good Film.

I would've liked the Major to have been more present in the middle of the Film, but tbf she has a decent twist towards the end of the Film.

Overall I'd score the Film - 8/10, it's a memorable Movie, just with a couple of flaws here or there.

Knock at the Cabin 2023

6.5/10.

But the ending sucked.

…Minari … a superb movie/story of family and roots and bonding and growth and pursuing that imagined ‘American Dream’ ….so we’ll cast and so we’ll acted…10/10…
