The 355…a great cast…the vibe felt a bit Charlie’s Angels action/thriller/spy plot…I liked it, there felt as though there was a good bond with the cast……7/10….

The Harder They Fall…I liked it quite a bit…it felt like an old style spaghetti Western…brutal and bloody with no goodies…or is it no baddies…anyway…7.5/10….

Ammi 26-11-2023 07:42 AM

…Belfast……it felt such a tender and gentle movie in parts and totally contrasting and navigating childhood and family love and the love for ‘home’…with the surroundings of living through ‘The Troubles’….to leave everything that is loved, a part of the heart that no other place on earth could ever bring in the same way…a place where ‘everyone knew your name’….or to stay and feel that maybe you won’t be able to protect your family but to know that a whole community will be there for them and watch out for them…those ‘roots’ that can never be felt anywhere else in the same way…everything bad and scary wrapped up in somewhere that holds so much love and so many precious memories as well…anyway I loved it, it was the reality that those living in and through those times must have felt…

…one really very emotional and joy filled bit….

Spoiler:

…seeing them all at the cinema joyfully singing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang while their beloved Belfast raged outside of those cinema doors…just incredibly emotional but lovely…because it’s so easy to only recall those scarier and ‘worse times’….and forget that there were happy childhoods happening all around also…

…I’m going to say 10/10…very touching and very tender……

The Changeling (1980)

Ammi 15-12-2023 07:48 AM

…Leave the World Behind…I’m not sure how I felt about the movie but I guess that something that completely still holds your thoughts after is ended is pretty good in its storyline…but it was also quite flat as well, so a bit of a mixed feeling about it…it opened up questions, didn’t give answers but some stories just don’t have answers…they are what they are…a great cast and it needed that cast to hold us to it….I'm going to say 7/10, a totally absorbing watch…

…it was very, very difficult circumstance and insight into lives and a time that was all literally so ‘troubled’, very beautifully done, Vanessa….because the main focus was very much on the love of home and family and a community, Vanessa….

I watched this one the day before yesterday as well, all I'd heard about it before I saw it was that it was by the Obamas production company and there was people complaining about it on youtube because of one scene where

Spoiler:

The daughter tells her dad to trust no one, especially white people. And you had alot of people saying "oh it's fine to be racist against white people these days" etc etc which tbf there does seem to be a bit of trend where this is definitely the case, I've watched some pretty awful TikToks like that HOWEVER that one clip people are playing is totally out of context, you'd really need to have watched the whole film to see how this makes sense for that character to say. It is a bit of a social commentary film packaged up in an Armageddon movie but imo it showed all the characters flaws not just "the white people"

Anyway I enjoyed it 8/10

I think the first three are each decent movies in their own way, for what they're going for. Three is the point where it tries veering off into comedy, but four sadly went back on that. I enjoyed the fifth entry for the 'so bad, it's good' factor, and also Doug Bradley. Six was admittedly just trash.

The original (and its remake) were both written by Alan B. McElroy, the same man who wrote Halloween 4, my favourite of the Halloween movies. :hehe:

Spoiler:

…yeah, it’s one that really stays with you in thought, long after the movie is over…I think the ‘flat’ bit for me was just the ending of not being entirely certain that they all were reunited in the bunker…but I think the Obama’s input was interesting as well…/especially when connected with that ‘controversial’ quote because in the history of America, he was the only president of colour, hence the quote to not give power to white for me, would be anew beginning of an equal power being the only way forward this time…and with those two families, that’s how it would be for them…it’s sad though if that was a main media focus of the movie when there was so many things to take from it because it’s so reflective of our living world/planet today and how destroyed it’s becoming …one of the more sinister bits for me was the deer who were trying to warn and the flamingoes becoming misplaced also…anyway, yeah…it really hits on so many relevant things that we all think of almost daily….

I get what you mean about context being key.

However that dialogue sounds very off putting to me, I'm sick to death of that particular topic creeping into everything.

Ignore reviews imo.

Users and critics have agendas that can alter the scores away from the actual quality of the product.

Plus the only opinion that matters on Movies is your own.

Hopefully you like the Movie, Niamh.:)

yes, i mean most films from The Asylum on Syfy back in the day, got horrendous reviews and i ended up finding all of them very good enjoyable, not stuff you need to think through and through about but still lighthearted cheesy parody films

Sound of Freedom - I thought it was very good, I don't get the controversy around this one at all, it was based on a true story 7.5/10

Walden - It was a really unusual film but I really liked it 8/10
