They are now predicting recounts and an all nighter in a few states

Northern Monkey 09-11-2016 03:57 AM

Well i'm shocked.I didn't think Trump could win.I think it shows mainly how terrible Hillary is.Nobody likes her.

I'm trying to remain positive but failing. Hopefully Trump's stans can tell me because the only possibility is that Russia-US relations might ease?

Guys, you realize in a democracy, sometimes the results will not go with the mainstream popular vote right?

Brother Leon 09-11-2016 04:00 AM

Can we please not make this a gender thing? Hilary is a terribly unpopular candidate and she has largely bought that on herself. There was always this possibility of happening from when she got the nomination over Bernie. Donald freakin' Trump. How unlikable must you be...

...I found it really cringy last night watching some females being interviewed about their voting and how excited and emotional they were with the thought of the first female president...it should never be about gender, it should only be about the right person who they believed was most deserving of their vote...a vote for a female president for that reason alone is the same as an anti-establishment vote for no other reason than it's anti.../regardless of the low merits of that person...

I don't think it's even just Hillary (though she is a terrible candidate!). I think the liberalism is highly visible in our culture (particularly media) and it's been accepted as the eventual fate (read: shoved down our throats) for so many years... people took it for granted that it was going to just keep going that way, either for or against their wishes... that heavily influenced polling and that clearly affected turn out.

I really don't even think most people realize what they're even voting for... their reasons for supporting either of these idiots are very simplistic. If you ask them what is going on down-ballot, they don't know... I always ask. Very few know their names. This result will is a symptom of that problem.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking that Hillary voters are more intelligent than Trump voters... they're not. They all helped to make this election so negative instead of finding a core message we could all agree on, which AIDED to shift the pendulum to him... anyway, the blame should be shared across the board in my opinion... media, pundits, voters, platforms, political interest, medical, police, everyone has had their hand in influencing change... and they sat by and let both of these get to the top of the ticket.

Correct.

The terms 'racist' and 'sexist' will be thrown around in the days, weeks and months following this result (much like they were post-Brexit) but it's reductionist nonsense that solves nothing. You cannot begin to prevent things like this from happening without first understanding why they do.

Right wing anti-establishment populism is on the rise across the west precisely because of the failings capitalism and globalisation have had on the lives of working class communities that have been left behind and not listened to. It is essential that the left puts together a coherent alternative that addresses people's very real concerns with the actual answers.

It will not be easy, it will not happen overnight, but it won't happen while we stick our fingers in our ears and chastise swathes of disenfranchised people.

Maru 09-11-2016 04:08 AM

Iowa for Trump........ 238

Macie Lightfoot 09-11-2016 04:08 AM

Our (I know I'm one of the few Americans here but I'm still gonna use the plural) president believes that China invented global warming, and our vice president believes that you can electrocute the gay out of people and wants us to have funerals for aborted babies.

I ****ing quit this is a nightmare.

The vice president really is a dangerous man with insane beliefs, and it seems he'll be pulling the strings as he has the political background.

We're going to get an Atlantic/Pacific sized bowl of humble soup over the next years to feast on. That's fine. That's the change they voted for. The system worked as intended.
