Prisoner cell block H was renowned for its cheap wobbly sets, that's what made it so heart-felt. The picture quality won't matter when the drama grips you like nothing you've seen before.

I remember a few years ago when they tried to recreate it with some crappy thing called "Wentworth" it could have never have taken off when the original was an absolute classic.

The fact I still promote the original after 25 years or more should be enough to tell you, this is good, I hope you think I have good judgment?

The Gold…Matt Brinks. It’s really good.

I saw a mate of mine on the bus today and he mentioned this as a recommendation.

But will people still be recommending it in 25 years time like I recommend Prisoner cell block H?

Only Murders In The Building - First two episodes and I don't like it. It has some amusing moments littered with boring melodrama, and terrible pacing. Honestly the Streamers need to make better Shows considering they are the future of TV Shows.

Junji Ito Maniac: I've nearly finished the Season, basically think The Twilight Zone in the sense of different cast and storylines every episode, but as a Horror Anime instead. I like it, it's not my favourite Anime ever made, but it definitely has it's charms, in particular the Balloon episode, Tomie & the Hair episode were standouts imo. Hopefully the last two episodes will be really good as well.

Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc - I've only done the 47 minute first episode so far, but I did like it, tbh I'm not as huge a fan of Demon Slayer compared to my family members, but I did enjoy it. In particular the Muzan stuff towards the beginning of the episode I thought was interesting, and there is the Hashira guy who likes being flashy that might be fun to watch.

I think all the episodes are on YouTube. There's 600 and odd episodes. It ran between 1979 and 1986. I grew up with this and I was a huge, and I mean huge, fan.

I'm thinking about posting an episode or two a day on here to let you enjoy the ride too.

Is there any interest on the forum to join in the viewing of this cult classic? Trust me, you won't be disappointed, you will become addicts just as I was, that I'm certain of.

i thought it was rubbish when it was first shown, takes all sorts

I've only got two episodes left of Reacher and I have got to say that this might be the best Show that America has thrown out in years.

An actual plot
Characters with an actual personality
Strong acting performances
Melodrama dialled down in favour of Action
And decent pacing

That's not to say that the Show doesn't have it's flaws, like episode 5 in particular has a couple of forced scenes imo.

But overall it's been a very good Show, and seeing Lana Lang from Smallville in the Show is nostalgic.

Mystic Mock 17-03-2023 05:10 AM

I've completed (at least up to this point) an Anime called Drifters which for anyone interested has a 12 episode first Season, two OVA's classed as the second Season, and another OVA called The Outlandish Knight.

Now the series isn't officially concluded or cancelled as far as I'm aware.

However though the Show was a lot of fun imo, it reminded of Animes that I've enjoyed in the past all in one package which is Saga Of Tanya The Evil in the way the episodes are structured, Berserk in terms of the Dark Fantasy looking world and violence, and the humour of Gintama.

It's a bizarre blend, but one that I personally really took to.

My favourite character was Oda Nobunaga, but tbh they were all really good in their own way.

The main two are incredibly ‘watchable’ together or apart

Tbf I could buy it with Orlando Bloom as I've really liked his performances in LOTR and Pirates Of The Caribbean.

I'm less familiar with Cara Delevingne.

Mystic Mock 01-04-2023 01:45 AM

Oh and I've watched the first two episodes of Luther, and so far I am very mixed on the Show.

I really like Idris Elba's performance as Luther, and the Actress that's playing the serial killer, the cat & mouse game between them I think has the potential to be fantastic for the Show.

However I really don't like the Soap Opera-esque dynamic between Luther and his Wife, those scenes are painful to watch imo, it's like watching an episode of EastEnders, only at least EastEnders is meant to be a Soap Opera.

And the investigative team that supports Luther I'm on the fence with so far as they've not been properly developed yet.

Basically for me I hope that the Show embraces a more thrill ride type of style over another bastardised version of The Bill, or just another run of the mill CBS styled Crime Procedural.

I’ve got 17 days holidays so pretty sure I’m gonna watch Game of Thrones in it’s entirety ..

Think it works out at about 4 episodes per day / night ( I don’t need much sleep )

Any YOU fans !!

Penn Badgley confirms he *won’t* be in YOU season five and Joe is being recast
He’s ‘fed up’ with the evil character and has finally had enough of playing him

Penn Badgley has confirmed Joe Goldberg is being recast as he will not be carrying on in his role in the next season of YOU. Netflix has just confirmed YOU will be returning for a fifth and final season, but the actor has said he will not.

Well I'm one episode away from finishing Season 1 and tbh I'm still very conflicted on my feelings towards the Show.

I really like Alice as a character, imo all of her scenes have been the most interesting and fun to watch, I feel like the Show has also been smart on not overplaying her as well, they're doing great stuff there so far.

Luther by and large is also a good character and Idris Elba is doing a strong acting performance, it's interesting having a lead in a Cop Show with a more jaded personality.

However my issues with Luther.

1. Luther's ex-Wife and her boyfriend bring a lot of Soap Opera tendencies to the Show, they're not the only Soapy element in the Show imo, because that case in episode 4 has some elements of that **** in there, and to me it throws me off because on the other hand they're trying to be a more gritty Crime series but then the Show will add EastEnders-esque scenes which honestly confuses me on what this Show is even trying to go for.

2. What is the UK TV's obsession with everyone having to shout to express emotion? I thought that the Japanese can overdo it sometimes, but **** me Luther as a Show will just force shouting scenes in just for ****s and giggles.

3. I honestly don't like how the rest of Luther's team hardly get developed, it's like the Show just sees them as stock characters and can't be bothered to give them material.

4.
Spoiler:

The one supporting character in Ian is headed in an interesting direction going into the Season 1 finale, however to coincide with my issue from earlier, he needed to be focused on more than he was before this big plot point happened to make it have even more impact, it's a clever idea and I did still find it entertaining what he did I'm not going to lie, but a lack of character development prior to this move just feels sudden and not very well thought out imo.

I'll definitely give Season 2 a shot (as long as the Season 1 finale isn't chronic) but I want the supporting cast to actually be developed (I'm not watching FBI: International here) and preferably that the Soap Opera elements are largely eradicated in Season 2 onwards.

Mystic Mock 03-04-2023 11:42 PM

The 14th Season of NCIS: LA has been a decent return to form after a few ropey seasons imo.

Roundtree has improved a bit this season, and Fatima imo is still the best of the newbies despite some "off" scenes sometimes, but overall she's doing okay.

And I personally feel like it's good to see the tone of the Show being more OTT silly again, it's never meant to have been a serious Drama piece like the last three Seasons before this one had been, this goofy and OTT Action Crime Procedural is definitely the more correct approach for this Show imo because of how it was in the earlier seasons.

Plus thank god that Densi doesn't have the baby drama anymore.

started with Doogie Kamealoha last night

this is a good fun, lighter doctor series, bit of The Good Doctor vibe, from creators of Doogie Howser M.D

also Jason Scott Lee (icon who once played Bruce Lee) is in this as the main character's dad
