It's so strange too, watching old horrors is so comforting, to so many people. Nothing like watching a charismatic serial killer hacking up teens to bring us all together :joker:

…when we think about it, it isn’t such a strange thought in that movie are what we all watch at times for ‘feel good’ reasons…and horror movies are great at finding emotional balance in that no matter what sort of bad day we’ve had and however sorry we might feel for ourselves etc…?…at least we didn’t get hacked to pieces like those poor young people on the screen who had so many bad days ahead of them to look forward to…so they help us find that balance again……I’m probably overthinking that all a bit but yeah, it does actually make sense what you say….

And honestly, i was watching a video on youtube the other day about a guy in the US, his basement is basically a video shop haha, and like he pointed out, it wasn't just renting these films, it was going through the TV guide on a Friday night, marking off what films you'd watch over the weekend. And you would watch, you'd look forward to watching them. And you'd usually stick with them even if they were crap, because on demand wasn't a thing.

Spoiler:

…ah yeah, some of the older movie could be rented out for more than the 2 evening regular times…they could be rented for a whole week…and there were some really obscure films which also contained some hidden gems, though…so it was often the thing to go home with a whole armful of movies that you’d never even heard of……but then, some were great and we’d feel s so pleased with ourselves that find…but then others were just dire and a reason why they were lost among all of the other videos on the shelf…….but no matter how bad they were, as you say…we’d always watch them through because we’d spent time choosing them and paying for them etc…and just watching a movie/even an awful one…felt like a treat….
