…Peppermint……lots of action and revenge type kick ass …not really thought provoking but it was what it was and not too bad at all …and Jennifer Garner is always a great watch, so lifted it quite a bit…6.5/10…

The Vault of Horror - 1973.

Seen it many times. A great classic UK horror film.

Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell…complete and utter nonsense…excellent stuff with lots and lots of graboid action …8/10…

LaLaLand 07-01-2024 03:33 AM

Sleepless in Seattle is on Channel 4 OD so just gave that a watch for the first time in years. Such a lovely movie albeit slightly creepy and Meg Ryan can come across insufferable. Easy watch. Great soundtrack. Classic rom com.

7.5/10.

…The Good Liar……the storyline got very dark, very quickly…the only thing was
Spoiler:

…it felt obvious from almost the beginning that Helen Mirren’s character was the ‘good liar’ and that she was the deceiving one and that her grandson wasn’t her grandson etc…but the back story was still a twist that couldn’t have been predicted, so…still very gripping…
…great cast and quite chilling, really and two excellent lead performances that carried the plot so easily…8/10…

Mandy (2018)

Nick Cage has a chainsaw fight in it. What more does one need to say? Solid 8/10.

…Freelance…Im not really familiar with John Cena but I think, like Dwayne Johnson…he comes from the wrestling world…I don’t know what the plot was but I guess it did have a plot other than his character ‘bursting out’ of his mundane office job and clothing and leaving his family to go kick ass in the South American jungle…because who knew…he was special forces …anyway it zipped along and ended quickly so that was good…I didn’t find him as charismatic and fun as Dwayne Johnson but maybe that’s just because I don’t know him very well…5/10…

…Kandahar was a good watch as well, I don’t know if you’ve seen that one…Gerard Butler is making some reasonable movies atm…he seemed to go through a phase of them being a bit bland and not great but he seems to be doing ok again now…

Yeah we were going to put that one on after Plane but the plot seemed to similar so went for Greenland instead, maybe we'll watch that tonight

…I think the thing with Kandahar as well is that it’s based in a true story, which I always like…plus it still had all of the Gerard Butler action that he’s known for…it’s a worthy watch…

Zizu 09-01-2024 09:06 AM

You guys who like plane crash movies ..
Apparently the crème de la crème is this one .. award winning

Is this a remake/retelling of "Alive" (1993)? It looks very similar but, of course, Alive was based on a true story so it's not necessarily a remake of the film itself just another film based on those real events. Potentially a more authentic take as it's in Spanish whereas "Alive" is English - the real people it's based on were from Uruguay.

I did enjoy "Alive" though and the true story it's based on is incredible/somewhat miraculous as well

Spoiler:

In the end two of the group left, on foot, and travelled across the mountains with almost no food and no equipment, and made it to civilisation to get help, saving the other survivors who stayed with the plane. The story would seem far fetched if it was just a film, the two making it even a few miles let alone a huge trek across the Andes is so unlikely, but it really did happen!
