…Greyhound……it was very much an ‘old style’ movie that was built in tension, rather than special effects etc…and the cast created that tension perfectly…Tom Hanks is just a magnificent actor and to have Stephen Graham as his second in command…it wasn’t a movie that in any way glamourised, it just displayed the cold and brutal world of war…7.5/10, it held the suspense and was a compelling watch…

Ammi 06-02-2024 06:26 AM

…Killers of the Flower Moon……I’m glad to know the story, there is so much in American history that I have no familiarity with…we are, though…very familiar with the greed and power that are still very much a part of a world we know today…a story well told…8/10…

…just edited to say that Lily Gladstone is tremendous as Mollie……she has such a calm and tranquil screen presence that is equally very powerful, which seemed to embody Mollie…

Ammi 07-02-2024 07:06 AM

…Finch……Tom Hanks so that already raises a movie to a level of maybe not greatness for this, but goodness…it’s a buddy movie between a human, a robot and a dog and it works and pulls on all of the emotions it’s aimed at…7/10…

Ammi 07-02-2024 07:08 AM

…CODA……loved, loved, loved everything about it..it’s a huge hug of a movie and just sparkling with feel good-ness with a terrific and perfect cast…9/10…

Ammi 08-02-2024 06:16 AM

…Palmer……a sweet and charming and heartwarming story that I think worked ok because of the bond between the two lead characters…just a nice movie/uplifting…6/10…

The Marvels

i don't know what the critics are moaning about

very enjoyable as usual, i personally loved usage of Cats musical song Memory (although it got stuck in my head afterwards)
Spoiler:

was a cool scene with the Flerken Cats

the acting also very good
Spoiler:

nice chemistry between Brie & Iman, Teyorah, some cool fight scenes with the ''switch up powers''

nice ending too
Spoiler:

with Kamala visiting and asking Kate Bishop to join the new avengers team, also with Ant-Man's daughter apparently

a solid 9.0 for me

…Sharper……slick and smart and clever and really very enjoyable…I liked it a lot…7.5/10…

A couple of nights ago I watched the first Blade Runner for the first time.

It was really interesting to see Harrison Ford in a much more serious role than what I associate him with normally, and the writing imo was really good, it's rare that I get that invested when watching a Movie, but Blade Runner had me interested right from the off.

In particular some of it's moral complexity is something that I thought was a great strength for the Film, I also have a theory about Deckard's character that I think is quite obvious in the Film.

I'm really bad at scoring Films out of ten, but it joins Tron, Nightmare On Elm Street, Manhunter, and Die Hard as some of my favourite 80's Films.

him as the president in Air Force One, also quite a very serious role i think

a film i personally have seen quite a few times, very enjoyable (bit of a Die Hard vibe as well)

Argylle

Was excellent. 9/10

Ammi 15-02-2024 08:48 AM

…Calista Flockhart has appeared in many series and movies but the series and role that launched her in the late 90’s was Ally McBeal…that was sensationally popular and she became a huge Hollywood name following on from then…

The Iron Claw - True story on the Von Erich wrestling family, really tragic and moving but a great watch.

rewatched In Bruge at the weekend, such a brilliant move, one of my all time favourites 9.5/10

I watched Blade Runner 2049 a few days ago.

I wasn't quite sure at the very beginning, and I tbh needed to get used to the more modern dialogue for this Film.

But the Film did just gradually win me over more and more as it went along, and the villain definitely claimed some big victories in the Film.

Overall I would still say that the first Film is better as I liked the City aesthetic and moral complexity of the characters more in the first Film, but this is still a very strong sequel imo.

Past Lives (2023)

A really gentle, beautiful movie on Netflix. It's nominated for a few big awards currently I believe. Lovely film and beautifully shot, too.

Basically a young girl emigrates with her family from South Korea and leaves her childhood sweetheart behind. They reconnect years later and the movie explores the themes of destiny and fate over time.

7.5/10.

The first Blade Runner is one of my absolute favourite movies ever made. I've tried watching 2049, but Villeneuve's style of filmmaking doesn't really agree with me. It all seems so muted and pretentious. It's the same reason I'm slightly wary of ever actually watching his version of Dune.

Ammi 20-02-2024 09:09 AM

…maybe my all time favourite movie quote is one from the original Blade Runner…

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.”

…I mean…:flutter:…

One of the best, most thought provoking movie lives ever. Especially the BB. I also love The Crow's/Brandon Lee's "victims, aren't we all"

I get that tbf.

I would personally say that Blade Runner 2049 is a much better Film than Dune, the problem with Dune I had is that they have split one Book into two Films, which I could certainly tell that that's what Villeneuve had done.

Where as Blade Runner 2049 has a proper beginning, middle, and end structure to it, which I appreciate more than just as the story is about to get past the prologue stages, bang! It ends, in Dune's case.

You should check Dune out though, because you might feel differently to me on which Film is better.

And I think the pretentious claim is why I preferred the original Blade Runner Film, because Ridley Scott didn't really do any pretentious stuff in it really, it was just a really well told story throughout imo.
