Pretty much, it's very transparent and grotesque. It's never been about traffickers, it's always been about stopping 'undesirables' and in this case, they can't blame immigrants so they try to mask what they want to say by focusing on traffickers.

Traffickers or not, desperate people will do desperate things for a chance of a life free of tyranny. Traffickers are vile exploitative creatures but people dying for a chance at a better life won't be solved by focusing on traffickers. If these people truly cared about asylum seekers, they'd shine more of a light on their plight.

Oh please, you mustn't talk to many people then if you don't think people think of immigrants as lesser humans. It's an all too common attitude.

we gave Sudan £52 million quid the other year to help with people leaving their home

maybe we should focus more on how that was spent

we do more than our bit

An unnecessary death born from a desperate act will always be tragic, regardless of the person's age.

Just because you are ignorant to the fact that they have either directly or indirectly been referred to as 'swarms' 'infestations' or cockroaches does not mean it isn't true.
They have and by some very powerful and influential people, your indignation is misplaced.

Ammi 21-08-2020 04:34 AM

...’vermin’ wasn’t used for point scoring in any way..it is how immigrants/asylum seekers have been described...both by Trump in the US and by Katie Hopkins in the U.K, describing families who have fled their war torn home countries to seek refuge and to seek future life..words carry great weight and have great power to influence and to dehumanise, sadly...and some media often support this in their reporting...

The Pew Research Centre estimated that between 800,000 and 1.2 million unauthorised migrants were living in the UK in 2017 so one can imagine what it is now and the impact this has on housing, traffic, and our NHS

Worrying

Really, the thing you worry about is HOUSING and TRAFFIC?
TRAFFIC? out of all the issues UK has currently? TRAFFIC.

arista stop downplaying your intelligence. I know you speak French and watch France24 all the time. You're more clever than only blaming France for this "issue".

The crossings will only ramp up until January when we leave the EU and change our laws.

Yeah I'm sure the first priority of these "illegals" is to buy a car and drive around the UK before actually getting a visa, a house and a job. But okay.

These are human beings looking for safety we're talking about here, and really having "traffic" these people would cause as an immediate issue is...heartless to say the least.

You know nada about my heart

Most illegals come in the back of a lorry and disappear

Crimson Dynamo 21-08-2020 08:31 AM

Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health in the UK, with between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths a year attributed to long-term exposure. There is strong evidence that air pollution causes the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and lung cancer, and exacerbates asthma.

These human beings found safety in france yet decided to risk thier lives again by jumping in a tiny dinghy...

He sadly could not swim.

Quite. However old he is, his blood is on the hands of the French authorities who refuse to do anything about the crossings, and the traffickers taking money from the migrants.
