A sandwich is fine. That's what I usually had when I was going to school.

Maybe its fair enough for a while

Doesn't really work for low-income children. Their school meal may be the only hot meal they get in a day, especially with the increasing financial constraints being placed on already stretched parents.

Starving kids, and freezing pensioners is the biggest indictment on a government you repeatedly cheer on, especially the cruelty.

Yes, make those schools Exempt

And Pensioners can pop off to the Library to keep warm
9AM to 4PM

No Cruelty, Slim.

bots 30-08-2022 02:16 PM

the biggest issue is going to be with the elderly. They are very vulnerable and many are too proud to look or ask for assistance. It could be carnage if its a cold winter

you do realise that many pensioners are housebound Arista?

Cherie 30-08-2022 02:19 PM

Some guy rang in yesterday who lives in Hungary their government said they were not paying and prices are the same as a year ago but then they are a Russian friendly country

bots 30-08-2022 02:24 PM

a lot of eastern european countries will likely have the same system they have in Russia, where central heating is provided at a central hub and the hot water for the radiators is then pumped out to all the apartment blocks

No Cruelty, Slim.

Most schools have a split in free-meal and no free-meal recipients, so the exemption would basically apply to all state run schools, making the original suggestion completely useless.

Tories have spent 12 years closing libraries and other essential community services in the name of austerity driven debt reduction, whilst at the same time as more than doubling the debt (before the pandemic). Even if all pensioners were mobile and active (they aren't), there is no way all of them are within reach of a library. On top of that, they shouldn't be forced to leave their houses for basic rights.

arista 30-08-2022 02:49 PM

"Tories have spent 12 years closing libraries"

Yes those Pensioners
in the zones with No Library
can pop off to a Council Owned Warm Center

Again, Arista, why do people have to work around your government to get the things that should be provided? The basic job of government is to take care of, and protect the citizenry. Why do you continually swap this basic requirement, as long as they are cruel to the same people you hate?

thats not a solution. An unheated house becomes damp very quickly in winter which is a killer in itself. Water pipes will burst, lights will blow

Exactly - damp and mould are killers in winter, not just temperature.
