Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh has joined the cast of a new BBC drama.
The actress, who portrays Cheryl Brady in the teen soap, will play the wife of a serial killer in upcoming BBC Two thriller The Fall. http://i2.cdnds.net/12/18/618x930/br...promo-shot.jpg Waugh said that she will not need to take a break from Hollyoaks to film the five-part piece. She explained: "I am so thrilled and honoured to have been given this opportunity by the BBC. It is such a challenging and demanding role that I feel will really stretch me and explore my range. "Allan Cubitt's script is the kind that actors can only dream of and to be involved with such an esteemed cast and creative team is a definite career high for me. "I'm so lucky to have such an understanding boss at Hollyoaks. Emma Smithwick, our executive producer, was so supportive and did everything in her power to enable me to do both. "She knew what an amazing opportunity it was for me. It's been tough - working seven days a week and flying back and forth between Belfast and Liverpool - but I absolutely love it!" Playing Sally-Ann Spector in The Fall, Waugh will appear alongside X Files legend Gillian Anderson, who stars as murder investigator DSI Gibson. Hollyoaks co-star Gerard McCarthy has signed up for the show in March. Once Upon a Time's Jamie Dornan and Séainín Brennan have also been recently announced. Aww I am so pleased for her!:) |
Hollyoaks bosses are searching for new recruits to join the soap's creative team.
The Channel 4 show has opened up applications for a number of storyline writers who will join the existing story department. As the programme is recruiting at different levels, professional experience isn't essential - but applicants must have a passion for storytelling and a thorough knowledge of Hollyoaks. Part of the application process includes pitching a story for Hollyoaks in no more than 300 words, as well as choosing characters and storylines you have either liked or disliked the most and explaining why. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, May 8 so if you think you have what it takes, head over to the Lime Pictures website for all the details |

Hollyoaks bosses have announced that singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre is to star in upcoming episodes of the soap. The Mercury-signed artist will appear as part of a storyline which sees Savage brothers Dodger (Danny Mac) and Will (James Atherton) go head-to-head in competing events to raise funds to house their family. Will raises the stakes by promising a headline act to boost ticket sales for his music event, but his plans end up in jeopardy when the stage is left empty and the punters become restless. However, a possible lifeline transpires when Will's eccentric cousin Dennis (Joe Tracini) recruits Sabre to perform in the Hollyoaks village - which may just save the day. Sabre's first appearance in Hollyoaks will be in an E4-only special airing on Thursday, June 7 at 7pm. He then turns up in the main 6.30pm show on Channel 4 the following evening. As the E4 special replaces the usual first-look preview, the first time viewers will see Sabre perform will be on Channel 4 on Friday, June 8. Hollyoaks bosses are also inviting viewers to apply for free tickets to watch Sabre perform. Filming takes place at the soap's Liverpool base on Saturday, May 19 and full details are available on the Hollyoaks website. |

Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson has expressed his delight over co-star Bronagh Waugh's new drama project.
Waugh, best known for playing Cheryl Brady on the Channel 4 soap, has been cast as the wife of a serial killer in upcoming BBC thriller The Fall. Richardson, who plays Chester's Ste Hay, has now told Digital Spy that he is thrilled over the success of his colleague and best friend. He commented: "This is something I'm really excited about, because I think Bronagh Waugh is an amazing actress and she doesn't get the credit she deserves. She's never really nominated for 'Best Actress' or anything like that, because Cheryl is a very comedic character. "So when I heard about the news that she was auditioning for this, in my head I was thinking, 'Wow - it's a really big part and I hope she gets it'. And then when she told me that she'd got the role, it was just amazing." Details of Waugh's new part were officially announced yesterday. The 29-year-old is currently filming the programme in Belfast, juggling the five-part series with her Hollyoaks commitments. Richardson added: "She's told me the plotline and I think the stuff that she's going to do is going to shock a lot of people! I think it will put Bronagh on the map, really." The Fall, which also stars former X-Files actress Gillian Anderson, will air on BBC Two in September. |
Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has revealed that she is keen to explore the rebellious side of her character Sinead O'Connor again.
Sinead ran away from home and had various dramas with on-off boyfriend Bart McQueen (Jonny Clarke) last year, but has so far had a quieter 2012. Davis told PA: "I'd like to see things get a bit more gritty for Sinead, maybe see her get in a bit more trouble than she's usually in. "She's a bit goody two shoes now. I want her to get back being chavvy and Scouse again and get really naughty." The 19-year-old added that her real-life family members were the real winners when glamour girl Mitzeee Minniver (Rachel Shenton) recently gave Sinead a makeover. Davis said: "She got remade by Mitzeee so all my clothes were got rid of. They were like, 'Shall we throw them in the bin?' I was like, 'No, I'll keep them all for myself!' "They're all designer, Topshop, I went home with two big bin bags and I gave them all to my cousins and my family." |
