Elysium

not sure why it was met so lukewarmly... sure, it's no District 9, but it's a smart and enjoyable action flick with a solid cast. 8/10.

Devil's Due ... 6/10

DrunkerThanMoses 08-02-2014 03:55 PM

My Bloody Valentine (1981) - My god, terrible dialogue, awful unlikeable characters and no tension or build up. It got mildly better in the last half hour and the one annoying character was so annoying and pathetic she made me laugh right until she was killed. The twist at the end was okay as well. Worth a look for out-dated laughable slasher film. 3/5

Slevin 08-02-2014 06:59 PM

Dallas Buyers Club - good film. McConaughey & Leto had solid performances. imo it was some of their best work to date. really deserving of all the accolades they are receiving and for the movie. ive seen plenty of movies where actors put their bodies in such condition for a role but it always makes me think damn.

8.5/10

The Butler

heavy-handed tedium. It's almost like everyone cast (and it is a massive, A-list cast for no good reason) is just scrambling over each other to just try and be inspirational or moving

Whitaker's obviously great, but there were way too many stupid castings that it was distracting. Mariah Carey is on screen for all of 10 seconds. Why!?

5/10 at best.

A good slasher film, and the twist was nice... 7/10

The Graduate 9/10. Dustin Hoffman played his character brilliantly. Definitely one of my favourite films now.

Cabin Fever 3 (2014)

The first movie was not too bad, it grew on me over time, I was not big fan of the sequel

This one, first if see the plot it bit of lie, as there is not cruise ship in the movie, it just bunch of teens on a boat!

This movie as two stories going one, first about scientific who on another boat , who seem they got man they believe to have flesh easting virus.

The other story is a bunch of teens looking for time by get drunk, stoned or laid .

I don't think this movie was as good as first movie but it a lot more darker tone then the second movie.

This movie was not to bad as it had decent gory moments which I really liked but I did found parts to be little dull.

there acting were was okay times but I just didn't care about the, I Just they were all bit dull.

I give a 5 out of 10 just for some gory moments!

oldboy 2013 remake - 5/10

The orginal is class this was a shame. mines a generous score as its watchable. but i know the critics are hammering it big time.

welcome to the jungle - 2013 4/10

comedy starts of well then they go to the jungle and i was looking forward to that bit but god it went in a completely different direction to how i thought. and was just plain stupid silly and not very funny. shame it could of been good.

All is lost 2013 - 6/10
robert redford and a boat distaster movie. no speaking no other actors.
its good and really well made but no speaking is silly as even on your own your going to curse and speak. the ending was poor and redford while good acted like it was no big deal even though he is going through hell no emotion.
critically its a 8/10 but for entertainment i would give it 6

Cypher 2002 - 9/10
Watched on tv last night ive seen it before but didn't remember that well. great intelligent movie . cool twist. loved it and lucy lui yum

Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi - I really enjoyed it, it's just not at A New Hope's level though for me.

DrunkerThanMoses 15-02-2014 06:42 AM

My Sassy Girl (2008) - It was watchable and I liked some of the quirkiness of the film but the last half hour was boring and the films edit often got muddled up. - 3/5

According to Spencer (2001) - Just a really bad film that was boring and was ruined by the fact that the soundtrack was too loud that it was difficult to understand what the characters were saying. 1/5

The People Under the Stairs (1991) - This was more of a re-watch but I seen it years ago so kinda forgot what happened. Amazing film all together, good amount of gore, tension, claustrophobia and comedy. There was one or two parts of the film I didn't like but overall a great under-rated film. 5/5

Livia 15-02-2014 11:55 PM

Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. It was fun... couple of laugh out loud moments. 7.5/10

The Impossible - absolutely devastating.. But incredible at the same time.

Freebirds - crap

user104658 16-02-2014 04:37 PM

Melancholia: altogether an excellent film, with a great understanding of mental illness. Kirsten Dunst has an almost flawless portrayal of depression (although the onset is a little sudden, but artistic license there) though I believe she has genuinely suffered with it. The other sister's panic over Melancholia is a metaphor for generalised anxiety and again paints the picture exceptionally well. Plus it has Jack Bauer in it which is automatic plus points. 8/10

Wolf of Wall Street: a good film though it drags slightly towards the end and yet, paradoxically, his transition at the end feels rushed. Well acted and very memorable otherwise. And "the cerebral palsy phase" absolutely cracked me up... 7/10

Transformers (the first one): rewatched for the millionth time on Valentines Day, it's the first film me and my other half saw together :joker:. I actually think it's a great film for what it is, it gets the blend of blockbuster scenes and more "grounded" relationship scenes pretty much perfect. Pity the sequels missed that balance completely. BUMBLE-BEEEEEEEE!!!/10

user104658 16-02-2014 05:04 PM

Oh, also "her", which is a good film and the acting is good... However... It reminded me quite a lot of the similarly themed (but less mainstream) "Ruby Sparks" which I personally think nailed relationships / loneliness / breakups where Her slightly missed the mark as it was distracted by a couple of other themes. The acting in Ruby Sparks wasn't as high quality and yet, I enjoyed the film more and found it more thought provoking... which makes me wonder where "Her" was lacking. That considered, I give "her" 7/10. (Ruby Sparks is well worth a watch, by the way).

I, Frankenstein - 9/10
I loved this modern twist on an old classic, it was much more entertaining than I expected it to be, great action scenes and a good story.

Frozen - 9/10
A great Disney film, I adored the story and the music, the animation was beautiful, don't have a bad word to say about it.

That Awkward Moment - 8/10
It had a good mix of humorous and serious, the actors fit the roles really well and the bloopers at the end was a bonus.

..Captain Phillips...8/10...

Moviefan 18-02-2014 02:05 PM

The Devil's Child (2007)

Very slow movie, not much action in the movies, most of the action is actually off screen, You find hard to connect with anyone in this movie.

The movie was far to long for me, Kind of drag in some parts, Found first half kind of annoying, With Josh playing the piano and the new born baby crying no-stop, got boring,

Mum will starting to losing as she getting fed up of the new born baby, Odd small things happen, that Josh is doing, who is very creepy in every seen he is in.

I didn't like the how movie ended at all, the movie stay on one level for all movie, never really pick up!

5 out of 10 Disappoint

I really hated District 9, much preferred Elysium, I really don't like that "shot with a home video/documentary" style film
