Also, if you are trying to imply that it should be used by everyone or no one at all, then you are barking up the wrong tree. There is no reason for a white person to have to use it really is there? Verbal or whoever it was that used it probably already knew this, but of course saw an opportunity to wind someone up and prove a point that isn't even a valid point lol.. Anyway there was already a thread about why it can be used and can't be used and by who, but I've been there done that. |

That's not to say I particularly like it being used though, I just don't think it''s meant to be offensive, but it still causes a divide if one person can use it and not the other I guess as another example is some Tottenham fans calling themselves Yids, and when the FA/police tried to crack down on it David Cameron backed them up with a fairly similar argument about trying to change the context of the word and trying to use the word as a positive |

I'm mixed-race (you should know that by now ) and I am offended by the N word, whether it's used by a black person or white person. My friend is also black and he's offended by the N word too.
I also get offended by the word half-caste. I didn't know why but I was always just taught that it was offensive, and I looked it up and it's something to do with cast meaning "pure" and if you're only half pure then that means you're half dirty, which is racist I suppose. I prefer the term 'mixed race' tbh. |

if the word really does mean nothing anymore then there should be no problem. but it does therefore it shouldnt be used. |
..I think it's really assuming and disrespectful to think that a certain grieving over a celebrity death is false...one person may be just another celebrity to someone but they could be an idol to someone else ...an idol of their youth/someone they grew up with and there are very real emotions attached to that...or if it's someone very young and it's sudden and someone so full of life/talented etc...there is a real shock and yeah, a grief attached to that because we watch them on our screen and they make us feel, laugh, cry etc....it's not the same as with a family member/friend but it's still very real...it's also a reminder of mortality and very thought provoking that anything could happen to any of us at any time....with sudden deaths without illness, I mean...for me it's kind of, yeah that might not be what you feel and that's fine, no one expects it of you but don't dismiss other people's feelings or interpret them as an over- reaction ...it's very personal and individual...
|
It's wrong that some people can use the word ***** and other people can. Either you think it's wrong for anyone to say it, not just people who aren't black.
I think it's most common in black rappers |
I have no desire to ever use that word, I can't think of a time when I would ever feel the need to either. However I do feel it causes more divides and such when a certain group are told they cant while its fine for others.
I get that there's a big history and stuff, but I still feel that anything that separates us isn't good in this day and age, if you get me? I don't totally understand the reclaiming thing either if I am honest. I know this example is going to come across as trivializing history but I can't think of another way to put it...if I had been called a speccy bitch while being bullied badly at school, no way would I ever think oh well, lets change the meaning of it and start referring to myself as that? I would never want to hear that again. Its probably just one of those things that am totally missing the point of though. But it has always confused me why a word with such bad history surrounding it is used so often among certain groups  |
I say ***** all the time, I even call some of my white friends *****. Imo it comes down to everyone being different and living different lives

staight away one word causes divides that weren't there and shouldn't be there. The word is offensive to all in my view. those who claim they are reclaiming it back are liars as its not being used in that contex a lot of the time. |

Right! This thread is closed!
Reason: Too Long! |
I genuinely find 90% of people I meet absolutely dire, dull and just another bland lifeless existence who are wasting their short time.

I think I have to right to point out an individual who's lapping up the publicity about a tragic accident in scotland, before the tragic fate of his father is even known, is like a Jeremy Kyle guest.
