I watched the mean girls remake ( 2024)

Ok they made it a musical which was fun...and had some quirky moments, but I still preferred the original 100% , and this version just felt like a pale imitation , with the odd swap around.

I found myself laughing the most ...at an old joke ( it figures ) from the original- the classic " she doesn't go here " , they added an extra flare to it ,but it was still the same funny joke :joker: .

No Time to Die.

Worst Bond film I've ever sat through. 2/10 - and that's for the Astons.

Secret Honor (1984)

It's an hour and a half of Philip Baker Hall performing an increasingly deranged and explosive monologue as Richard Nixon. Because of his passing resemblance to Nixon, he doesn't have to lean into being a caricature quite as much as, say, Anthony Hopkins, who, though also great actor, I feel had to lean into that caricature more on account of his total lack of resemblance to the genuine article. As to the cartoonishly loony acting of PBH (which isn't a slight against him), I don't believe Nixon would have ever truly acted quite like this IRL (even inebriated and in private). Therefore, I choose to look upon this as a thematic illustration of the conflict that was forever taking place at the very center of Nixon's being.

A Christmas Carol (2009), starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge. You wouldn't think it works, but it does. The uncanny valley effect of the 3D animation lends a real haunting quality to the story and reminds viewers of how dark and unsettling the Dickens story actually is. Probably my favourite adaptation of the tale.

Well i loved the first film until the sad ending and I haven’t watched it since .. same applies to the old Spartacus movie

My mental state just can’t take any kind of sadness these days .. I don’t even watch the news or read newspapers

Ignorant is bliss in these matters

Thats why I should really take myself away from this forum more often as I keep getting involved with silly little disagreements that simply drag me down further

Love the first one. I have to say, this movie more than holds it's own.

…Maggie’s Plan……I really enjoyed this a lot…it’s a rom com, yes…but it has an original/more unique plot and the humour is very polished and sharp…Greta Gerwig also, is such a great and likeable actress…she’s such an excellent Maggie…a worthy watch for a lighter movie…7.5/10…

The Last Duel - Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jodie Comer. Watched it on TV last night, really enjoyed it. 8/10

JoJo Rabbit's on Film 4 at 11pm today, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's not seen it.

Jody Comer is fabulous in Killing Eve and she’s extremely busy making movies now

The Bikeriders is a great movie ( with Tom Hardy and the guy who played Elvis in the recent movie)

She's a brilliant actress. And yes, The Bike Riders is on my list to watch... love Tom Hardy.

…I watched two movies, I watched….

Blitz……the story of a child who is determined to return to his mother and grandfather in London, when he’s evacuated and following his journey back there…Saoirse Ronan is always a great watch and it’s such a heartfelt story …and obviously, what so many families went through in that time….8/10….

Happy Go Lucky……about a regular happy go lucky person living her regular happy go life ….but it isn’t a regular movie, it’s quite inspired and deep and Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan are brilliant…8/10…

Trap (2024)

A really clever and darkly comedic thriller from M. Night Shyamalan. I've always thought of Josh Hartnett as being just a pretty face, and so his performance in this was kind of a revelation to me. It's so recent that I won't spoil the film like the trailer does, but all I'll say is that it's really fun and engaging to watch Josh Hartnett's character try to wriggle himself out of the tense situation he's found himself in.

I get that 'pretty face' thing. I had no time at all for Brad Pitt till I saw him in Twelve Monkeys.

Smile 2.

I wasn't a fan of the first film. It sort of lost its way midway through and I got very bored of it, and didn't finish the movie.

But Smile 2 was much better. I think that's largely down to Naomi Scott who I believed was the person she was portraying in the movie. She's a good actress who made her natural performance compelling.

I gave Smile 2 - a respectable 7.5 out of 10. :D
