They're a great duo Colin and Brendan Gleeson. Loved them in In Bruges too.

Just watched Companion it was a pretty good Sci fi type film 7/10

….ahhhhhh, that was exactly my thoughts as well, that the storyline was so different and that feels quite rare in the world of movies…and yeah, they’re both so likeable and so engaging…just a jolly good watch……

Yes I've liked Colin Farrell for years.

"Heretic" - Hugh Grant plays a villain so much better than a bumbling love interest, I swear. He's genuinely chilling :umm2:.

"The Sound of Music" - daughter had never seen it, watched it as nice Sunday afternoon viewing, discovered that this movie in 2025 is fking terrifying and came away with profound existential dread. All a little too close to home right now! I'd only seen it as a kid so didn't understand how much just-pre-WW2 politics was involved. Even more chilling than Hugh Grant honestly.

At the weekend re watch "Vengeance Most Fowl" with Wallace and Gromit.

It would be nice if it could win the Oscar, but suspect someone else will get it.

…My Old Ass……just a really, really sweet and lovely ‘coming of age’ type movie/story…great cast/endearing characters ….6.5/10…

Ammi 28-02-2025 04:54 AM

…Warrior (2014)……the storyline in itself was quite predictable but that didn’t really matter because the substance of the movie for me was the characters and the casting of those characters…Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy as clashing brothers and Nick Nolte as the father are all brilliant and raise the movie to be far more than the plot…8/10…

Babygirl.

Watchable but quite disappointing if you go in expecting an erotic drama that pushes the envelope like the trailer suggested. Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson have basically no chemistry whatsoever, neither romantic (which I'll concede may have been part of the point of the story they were trying to tell), but also neither sexual. A lot of the risqué parts of the movie (especially on the part of Harris Dickinson's character) were just cringe and awkward as opposed to being titillating in any way. Antonio Banderas, despite his limited screen time, was the best part of the film imo. His performance was the high point of the movie for me.

…The Outrun……very bleak and very stark and very sobering/literally, as it’s about recovery from addiction and the very troubled family and childhood that contributed to the addiction… Saoirse Ronan is totally spell binding, she just completely mesmerises as Rona…it’s a wonderful talent that can carry a movie and character in the way she does with this and the very reason for a 9/10 score…I was completely drawn into Rona’s life and world…

…I rewatched Runaway Jury….great story/excellent acting…not only from Gene Hackman but from all of the cast…/…a thoroughly good watch…9/10…

I finally got around to watching The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. What an egrossing and captivating movie. Once it got going, I honestly didn't want it to stop. Thank goodness there are two movies left to watch.

I'll have to rewatch the Fincher remake somewhere down the line, so I won't say I unquestionably like the OG more, but it definitely made more of a positive first impression on me.

Really glad you liked it. Noomi is perfect, isn't she. And I don't think the standard drops over the next two films, not at all.

Watching these films really got me into Nordic Noir. I've watched the TV series The Bridge, which was brilliant and which I gave 10/10, and The Killing which is good... but only a 9/10.

I've seen that. Great movie.

The Radleys 2024.

I really enjoyed this film. :D It's not perfect, but the cast is good and it's British made.

The movie is about a middle class family of vampires who have led a life of not drinking blood for many years but they rediscover the taste and things go wrong! :joker:

The acting was pretty good. It's a comedy horror and I usually don't like them but yeah it was a fun movie.

I give it 8/10 because I have not complaints. :p

…Sing Sing……and incredible story/an incredible performance from everyone but Colman Domingo is completely mesmerising…he’s been a favourite for me since early Fear the Walking Dead days/his character is still one of the best things about the series …so powerful and uplifting and intense and really shows the power of art…of dance/of music/of acting etc…just completely absorbing story…9/10….

…Bank of Dave 2/The Loan Ranger….…The Loan Ranger is such an excellent tag for him, isn’t it…I hadn’t realised that he was so key in bringing down and changing legislation in regards to awful, awful payday loans that prayed on the most vulnerable and destroyed lives…well done, Dave…he’s such a salt of the earth guy in every way…always for the people….…excellent cast and I love Chrissy Metz from her This is Us days so lovely to see her part in there as well…7/10…a thoroughly good feel good….(as recommended by Niamh, I should say……)…

I'll make a note to try both of them out at some point in the near future. I'm not sure if I've heard of Nordic Noir before, but anything adjacent to TGWTDT has gotta be worth a try. So I'm sure I'll enjoy exploring that wider subgenre.

…Here……it took a little while to get going because it isn’t an action film or a plot film…it’s a home/house film and about the lives of the people who live there, which are all the turbulence’s and calm waters that many people go through in their lives…I didn’t think that I was going to like it but it became quite absorbing to know how the families who lived here, progressed in their lives…it was lovely to see Tom Hanks and Robin Wright together on screen again as well because they were such a great Forrest Gump partnership…6/10…

The Instigators (2024)
https://www.panavision.com/images/de...tors-2024.jpeg

The oher night I was looking around to see if there were any good new movies about. I normally go for horror or sci-fi, but I do like action thrillers too.

I spotted The Instigators and then I saw it was a comedy as well as an action thriller - then I thought from my experience comedy does not always go with a thriller. And I was right. I did decide to watch this movie last night, and boy was it boring. Bad script. Lame acting, storyline, and not remotely funny.

The 'jokes' were forced to a point which was embarrassing. They actors obviously doing this for the money. Not commitment whatsoever other than that.

I watched it up to 55 minutes and I'd had enough. I think there was about 50 minutes to go. I'd rather be in bed! So I did just that. :D

1/10.

Ammi 08-03-2025 04:52 AM

…Moon……such an engrossing and mesmerising film …Sam Rockwell is so excellent, I won’t say much about the plot but the director is David Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones and well played Duncan Jones for such a captivating movie…8.5/10…

Brother - 2024.

Another unfunny comedy thriller which I gave a go but I quit after 20 minutes,

It was the awful acting from Brendan Fraser that did it. So annoying.

Just not good enough. Can't even rate the movie.

Double Blind (2023)
https://image.pmgstatic.com/cache/re...273_vobxke.jpg

I watched this last night. I'm only gve it 4/10 because I've seen it all before. It's an Irish film with mostly Irish cast/accents.

Basically it's about a controversial medical centre testing out new drugs on some young people, all of whom are being paid a massive fee, and this is the reason they keep on swallowing tablets, despite suffering bizarre side effects, like DYING.

The film is predicable but interesting - nothing great - but midway through it loses its way and all we see is panic and you know it's not going to end well. I was willing this movie to change its direction, and better still end soon, but it just dragged on. Least I saw it to the end but not great.
