Warburtons struggling to keep up with local deliveries as driver shortage bites

Ammi 24-07-2021 02:29 PM

…oh, not because of the pingdemic, then….the staff shortages for that company…?…but because European workers have left the U.K…?….

It's never been solely about the pingdemic, which is just exposing the problems of brexit. There's a reason everything is being blamed on the pingdemic...

bots 24-07-2021 02:56 PM

the whole order fulfilment process is fine tuned to be the most cost effective, and when something disrupts that whether it be the pindemic are basic lack of staff/drivers then it soon goes to rat. We are suffering both at the moment making it dodgy at best

…I’m just reading atm and it seems quite layered…?…but yeah, around 60,000 distribution drivers short because of a return to Europe …and U.K. drivers haven’t been able to complete training as replacements because of COVID restrictions factoring in…

Does anybody still believe this was a good idea (serious question). What’s the best thing about this?

bots 05-08-2021 07:52 AM

i'm fully convinced we will be back in the eurozone within a couple of years, it will just be done under the radar and under a different name

:joker:

the driver shortage is a perfect storm of 25,000 delayed tests, some exam current drivers have to do which costs them 5 days of work as well as 400.00 and Brexit

Cherie 05-08-2021 08:54 AM

anyone who didn't vote at the time and would have voted remain is just as culpable as those who voted out in my view :idc:

Weeell... maybe, you can't make assumptions about what higher voter turnout would have resulted in, plenty of people who didn't bother to go out and vote would have voted Leave if their mates were voting Leave. There will have been many fully drinking the kool-aid from their couch, but not actually fussed enough about it to go and vote on the day.

The comment is only made in reference to me, as the same comment has been made throughout numerous threads recently. I didn't vote in the referendum and yet I'm an outspoken critic of it.

Anyway...

there were an awful lot of young folk who didnt bother to vote in the ref. The majority of them supported remain, so it's not inconceivable that the result could have been changed by their vote

Anyway, my opinion is that nothing is forever, and we will be back in the customs union under a different name within 10 years

Ian Botham, the former England cricketer known for legendary clashes with Australia, has been appointed UK government trade envoy to the country.

Lord Botham, along with Baroness Hoey and several MPs, have been made trade envoys to boost British business interests around the world.

International trade secretary Liz Truss tweeted the former all-rounder would "bat for UK business down under".

Lord Botham reportedly once said "Aussies are big and empty - just like the country", whereas he was affectionately known in the country as Guy the Gorilla.

He is one of 10 new trade envoys.

Baroness Hoey has been appointed to Ghana, while Stephen Timms MP has been assigned to Switzerland and Lichtenstein, and Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP to Cameroon, in addition to his role as trade envoy to Egypt.

David Mundell MP has been appointed to New Zealand, Mark Eastwood MP to Pakistan, Marco Longhi MP to Brazil and Conor Burns MP to Canada .

Lord Walney has been assigned to Tanzania, while Felicity Buchan MP has been appointed to Iceland and Norway.

I'm sure all the weirdo's criticising Rashford for not sticking to sport when he helped feed underprivileged kids, will be up in arms about this move

It just reflects so poorly on us as a country, and shows we're not serious about anything and our policies are based on photo ops. We've replaced trade policy for after dinner speeches.
