Ryan Giggs is ready to open talks on a new one-year contract after seeing Paul Scholes’ successful U-turn from retirement.

The deal would take the veteran beyond his 39th birthday and 900 appearances for United.

But after seeing team-mate Scholes realise the error of his ways by retiring prematurely last season, Giggs does not want to repeat that mistake.

“I thought he’d retired too early - a lot of people did,” said the Welshman. “He was still the best in training with the reserves, so he obviously felt he could still do it.

“Nobody was going to disagree with that and it was a massive boost when we found out he was coming back before the Manchester City game.”

Giggs is already the most decorated player in the history of English football with an incredible 12 Premier League titles and two Champions League triumphs.

He remains a pivotal part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, making 21 appearances already this season. He needs three more to take him to 900 for the club – but he is more interested in winning more silverware.

“The big one was overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton,” he said. “But now I’ll just see where it takes me.

“We’ll sit down pretty soon and see what we want to do but at the moment I feel good and I want to carry on.”

Giggs is hoping to make it 13 titles this season and believes United are heading into a crucial stage of the season with Chelsea on Sunday followed by games against Liverpool and Tottenham.

“We have shown reasonable form and if we can get good results in those kinds of games, confidence will be sky high,” he said.

“We know that it’s a tough run, but those are the games you want to be playing in.

“We are not quite at the make-or-break part of the season, but it is an important time, and we know that if we win those games, then we’ll be in good shape and good form going into the run-in.

“We know what’s ahead of us and what we have to do.”

What a game and Chelsea will be kicking themselves for letting a 3 goal lead slip. How good to get at least something from Stamford Bridge:).

I was on the verge of a heart attack watching the second half but United's never say attitude comes through again!

Wayne Rooney deserved MOTM and De Gea produced a few good saves, although the defence messed up for the 3 goals and he wasn't to blame.

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United can take confidence from the way they came back from 3-0 down against Chelsea to win a point.

Jonny Evans' own goal put Chelsea ahead by the interval and two rapid goals after the half-time break from Juan Mata and David Luiz put the home side in control.

Yet United's famed ability to fight back was again on display as Rooney scored a brace of penalties before substitute Javier Hernandez headed in a late equaliser.

However, Rooney was disappointed United lost vital ground in the title race with neighbours Manchester City.

Accepted

"It's two points lost," Rooney told Sky Sports 1.

"We understand that, but after being 3-0 down - the City players at home must have liked that - we enjoyed the way we fought back.

"A lot of teams might have put their heads down and accepted defeat, but we never put our heads down."

Confident

Rooney claimed he did not see the penalties, but was confident of converting both.

"The two (penalties) we got I'm not sure. Thankfully the referee gave them," he said.

"I was always confident. I waited for the keeper to make his move and put it the other way."
