Livorno striker Alessandro Diamanti is set to join West Ham United.
The 26-year old is expected to sign a three-year deal worth €6.5million and join fellow Italian Gianfranco Zola at Upton Park. Livorno president Aldo Spinelli said the deal was as good as done. "It's practically done for Diamanti to West Ham,” he said. "The player deserves to make the step up after his stint at Livorno. Just a few details need to be finalised before the move becomes official." |

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned his players they will all be "ZEROES" if they fail against Champions League opponents Celtic tonight.
The Frenchman said: "If we drop points against Man United, you can always get them back. We still have 35 games to go. But lose this one and we are zeroes. There IS no way back. "That's why it is a more important game than Old Trafford for this club - by far. "It's not the financial blow that will matter if Celtic beat us, it's the fact we wouldn't be in the Champions League. You have to see how big this tournament is now. "Only two English clubs have played for the last ten years consecutively and even Real Madrid have not made the last 16 for the past five years. "So there are no guarantees, not for anybody. You have to fight for what you want. At Celtic we did that, we fought very hard. "There's no reason why it will be any different at home. It is not job done, it's job still to be done. "We have been in the quarter-final, semi-final and final of the Champions League in recent years, so that means that we are not far away. "But it all counts for NOTHING if we do not finish the job we started in Glasgow last week. "You have to reach the group stages and then see what we do from there." |
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expects a big night from Eduardo da Silva in tonight's Champions League clash with Celtic.
He said: "Then there is Eduardo, one of the players we missed terribly last season because he can score goals and he can provide. That's the unusual thing about our strikers, they can all do both. "It's a massive season for him after being out for so long. He went out with that terrible broken leg before he could prove what a big player he will be. "I had doubts about him coming back from his big injury, only a fool would not have. But with his strength of character, I have no doubts. "This is the kind of game when we could see just how good he really is." |
Tottenham already have drawn up plans to replace unsettled striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
The Daily Mail says Spurs are trailing Dinamo Zagreb's Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic, 23, with Pavlyuchenko expressing a desire to leave. The Russia international made it clear yesterday he was worried about his World Cup place after starting the season on the Spurs bench. |
Manchester City's mega spending has not ended with their £24 million capture of Everton defender Joleon Lescott.
The Daily Mail says City have agreed a £6m deal for another striker - 18-year-old Serbia international Danijel Aleksic. Serbia international striker Aleksic, 18, will sign for City from Vojvodina. He has been watched by Real Madrid and Villareal this season but was expected to move to either Ajax or Bayern Munich. However, City have been alerted by Serbia national coach Raddy Antic and have made their move to head off other interest. Last year, Aleksic represented Serbia at U17, U19, U21 and at full squad level. |

Arsenal will offer new deals to youngsters Alexandre Song and Fran Merida, according to a report in the Daily Mirror this morning.
Fran Merida has established himself in the Arsenal first-team squad this season and played 19 minutes of the 4-1 win over Portsmouth on Saturday. The 19-year-old midfielder came through the Barcelona youth set-up like Cesc Fabregas and joined the Gunners four years ago. According to John Cross in the Mirror: "Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is pleased with Merida... [and] has got himself in good shape after a hard pre-season and will now be a regular member of the first team squad." Cross adds: "Arsenal’s emerging midfielder Alex Song, given a new deal last season, is set to be offered improved terms. Song has made great strides and become a first team regular and Wenger is anxious his progress be rewarded." Song has established himself as the first-team’s holding midfielder and impressed in Arsenal’s opening two games of the season against Everton and Celtic. The Cameroon international (12 caps) is expected to start tonight’s Champions League second leg qualifier against Celtic. |

Arsenal boss Wenger not ready to deal in Gallas
26.08.09 | tribalfootball.com Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he isn't ready to offer William Gallas a new deal. Wenger insists Gallas is still fighting to land a new deal at the end of this season. Perhaps it may be vintage Wenger mind games, trying to keep Gallas on his toes. The Gunners chief added: "Why not offer him a new deal? It's early in the season and we will see later but now he has a big influence in the side." |
Arsenal boss Wenger won't rule out one more signing

Defender Joleon Lescott has rejected the criticism he received from Everton boss David Moyes during the build-up to his transfer to Manchester City.
Moyes claimed the 27-year-old England player showed "poor attitude" before sanctioning the move to Eastlands in a deal thought to be worth about £22m. "I was disappointed in the comments," said Lescott. "I feel they were inaccurate. I'd like to address them at a later date and talk more positively about my move." Lescott missed much of Everton's pre-season campaign after revealing his desire to leave Goodison Park but was cheered every time he touched the ball in the 2-1 friendly victory over Malaga on 7 August. |
Blackburn hope to conclude a deal to sign right-back Pascal Chimbonda from Tottenham by the end of the week for a fee believed to be around £2m.
Rovers chairman John Williams has confirmed to BBC Radio Lancashire that the clubs are in negotiations for the 30-year-old France international. Chimbonda rejoined Tottenham in January after six months with Premier League rivals Sunderland. He began his career in England at Wigan after joining from French side Bastia. |
Liverpool have sent Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth out on loan to Greek side AEK Athens.
The 20-year-old, who has yet to make a first team appearance for Rafael Benitez's side, has signed a contract with AEK until the end of the season. "I am coming to a big club in a great city," the under-21 international said. "I hope we can win the championship." Benitez signed Nemeth and compatriot Andras Simon in May 2007 after seeing them at the UEFA U17 championships. Simon has been loaned out to Spanish club Cordoba CF for the rest of the season. Nemeth scored 18 goals in 37 league games for MTK Hungarie and helped the club finish second in the Hungarian league in 2007. |
World Cup winner Jack Charlton has been taken to hospital after collapsing during a family holiday in Spain.
The 74-year-old was taken to a private clinic after falling ill in Mascarat on the Costa Blanca complaining of eye problems, his son John said. Tests were inconclusive and he was discharged to return to his family. Born in Northumberland, he played for Leeds United and became manager of Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle and the Republic of Ireland. |
heffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has placed former England striker Francis Jeffers on the transfer list.
Jeffers, 29, was sent off for a head-butt during his side's 2-0 Carling Cup defeat by Port Vale on Tuesday. Laws told the club website: "His conduct was totally unacceptable and something this club will not tolerate. "We have therefore enforced the heaviest punishment available with immediate effect and transfer listed the player." Jeffers, who signed for the Owls in 2007, was sent off after appearing to head-butt Port Vale player Tommy Fraser. Laws added: "The kind of behaviour enacted on Tuesday night is completely unacceptable and does not represent what Sheffield Wednesday stands for." |

Lescott sets top four target
Sylvinho delighted to be back in England Joleon Lescott has admitted that he joined Manchester City to challenge for a UEFA Champions League spot. The England international completed a big-money move to Eastlands from Everton on Tuesday, bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga. He joins a City revolution intended to help the club break into the Premier League's top four this season. Lescott admits it is that ambition which drew him to Mark Hughes' side, and he feels he has made the right move in order to further his career. "Everyone outside of the top four are aiming for the same thing and I just feel, at this moment in time, that Manchester City are better equipped to get there quicker than Everton," he said. "It's been well documented that I wanted the move and I'm delighted it's been done now. "It's been exciting. I wanted the change. I've moved to Manchester City and I'm glad it's over." Lescott also responded to criticism from former boss David Moyes, who questioned his attitude, claiming the Toffees boss was wide of the mark. "I was disappointed in the comments, I feel they're inaccurate," he said. "I'd like to address them at a later date and talk more positively about my move here. "I don't think I disrespected any of the players. If I did I apologise." Exciting Lescott was officially unveiled as a City player on Wednesday alongside fellow new recruit Sylvinho. The experienced full-back joins the Blues as a free agent following his release by Barcelona, and the Brazilian admits he is delighted to be back in England eight years after he left Arsenal for Camp Nou. "It's a good time to be here. It's an exciting time for the club. I'm really proud to be here again, in the Premier League," he said. "When I played for Arsenal it improved my game a lot. When you come to the Premier League you improve and play better. I think it will help me again. "I know I can help with the team and I know they can help me. I know I can help, but I'm not thinking about the first team. I'm just going to do my work and that's it." Sylvinho has signed a one-year contract with City, but he believes he is capable of competing at the highest level past next summer and has no plans to move into coaching just yet. "I could play maybe four or five years more. You never know," he smiled. "I have a contract for a year, so I am very happy. I will just try to help the team. It's a good time to be here at this club. I will help to make the club even bigger than they are. "I believe in the project and I believe in the coach. I believe we can do a lot of things in the future." |
