United 93. Very slow build-up but the climax is perhaps one of the most uncomfortable/heartbreaking scenes I've ever watched.

Vladimir 19-09-2009 10:05 AM

The Final Destination, last night. It's sooooooo great!

MassiveTruck 19-09-2009 11:16 AM

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Fairly funny. Nice simple story. Nothing out of the ordinary.

They're all great films but Taken just raised the bar completely on all levels. Many just see it as guts and gore and gratuitous violence but the filming, cinematography, the script, the storyboarding - everything just made it into such a beautiful package that had you hooked throughout. It wasn't over ambitious and it wasn't understated.

It also raised a number of important themes that other films haven't from Xenophobia to underground crime to cross border crime to drugs/sex trafficking... it's really just great!

Got to see Adventureland, I loved it. Would like to go again.

Nah, I think the film is enjoyable thrash which hasn't got the style of Leon and is hampered by numerous plot holes and a mechanical, formulaic narrative. I enjoyed it but that had more to do with Liam Nesson in the lead role than anything else. It's silly fun but didn't resonate with me on any level other than that of a slickly made and silly action film.
