Coronation Street producers have been forced to recast the role of Helen Connor due to the unavailability of the original actress. Sorcha Cusack has made several appearances since 2008 as Liam (Rob James-Collier) and Michelle Connor's (Kym Marsh) mother. However due to an unavoidable clash of schedules, the 60-year-old will now be replaced by Dearbhla Molloy. Helen's screen husband Barry will be played by original actor Frank Grimes, who returned to filming with his 'new wife' on Friday. He and Molloy will appear on screen in early July. Joking on his blog last week, Grimes said: "Well it is definite now... I am going back into Coronation Street. Start filming on Friday. I am to have a new wife though!" A spokeswoman for the soap told DS: "It's always tricky when a character's not with us on a rolling basis. We always try our best to secure the return of the original actors but sometimes we are forced to recast, as has been the case with Helen." Helen and Barry made their first appearance in Weatherfield in February 2008 to attend Liam and Maria's (Samia Smith) wedding. They briefly returned in the October on hearing the news of their son Liam's hit-and-run death. They made another comeback a month later for their 40th wedding anniversary. The pair were never seen in Weatherfield with their eldest son Paul (Sean Gallagher), who also died in a car accident. |
http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/09/13...r_eileen03.jpg Airs on Wednesday, May 20 2009 at 19:30 BST on ITV1 [spoil]As the doctor arrives and reveals that Colin has died of a heart attack, Julie rushes home. Seeing the police leave, she senses something is wrong and is devastated to hear that her father is dead. Julie sobs hysterically over Colin's body but Eileen urges her to get a grip as she goes to break the news to Jason. Eileen appears cold as she battles to hold it together in front of her family, but when she opens Colin's wallet and finds a photo of him with her when she was a little girl, she finally breaks down. Elsewhere, Norris is furious to find Ramsay holding court in The Rovers with Emily, Ken, Deirdre and Blanche. He storms out as Rita receives the shocking news that Colin has died. She retreats as she battles her emotions. Chesney confronts his sister about her hospital visit but Fiz maintains that she was accompanying Maria to an appointment. Chesney, however, is suspicious and begins to worry that she may be ill. And returning from a good date with Luke, Michelle is surprised to get a call from JD asking her to go on tour with the band. It's something she's always wanted to do but she's quick to turn him down for Ryan's sake. [/spoil] |

Former Coronation Street actress Ali Briggs is to make a return to the soap.
Briggs played the role of Emily Bishop's (Eileen Derbyshire) deaf niece Freda in 2005. Freda was last seen leaving her aunt's upset after housemate Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) became annoyed by the attention she was receiving from Emily. Her return will also signal the arrival of Freda's fiancé. A source told The Mirror: "Norris struggled to deal with her deafness and this led to some great comedy scenes at Norris's expense." They added: "Freda was cast in the mould of many great Corrie women, she was funny, nosy, and a smart woman who just happened to be hearing-impaired. We hope to carry on where we left off with her." In December 2005, Coronation Street and Briggs - who is also deaf in real life - won a Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR) People of the Year award for the "best portrayal of the lives and viewpoints of disabled people on television" for the character of Freda, who was the brainchild of Corrie writer Debbie Oates. She will reappear on screen in late July or early August. |

[spoil]CORRIE favourite Claire Peacock is left fighting for her life after a blood clot kills her secret unborn child.
The flame-haired cabbie collapses after weeks of rows with her gormless hubby Ashley. The butcher — and viewers — do not know Claire is expecting a baby until doctors tell him she has miscarried. And they add she may also die as a result of a clot on her lung. Devastated Ashley then sobs to pal Peter Barlow: “Please, she can’t die — she’s my whole world. And why didn’t she tell me she was pregnant?” The dramatic summer storyline on the ITV1 soap is a new blow for the struggling couple. Claire (Julie Hayworth) and Ashley (Steven Arnold) are constantly at war over lack of cash. She is furious after Ashley cancels their hol — then drinks away dosh at the pub. An insider said: “It’s going to be a terrible time for Ashley. “He realises how much his wife means to him — but is it all too late?”[/spoil] |

It's good bye from Sue and, unfortunately, good bye from me as well. There's been a lot of upheaval here at Shiny, as you've probably noticed. Last week, Sue resigned from Corrieblog and, having thought it over carefully, I am doing the same. It's a lot to carry for just one person and there doesn't seem to be any help forthcoming from the landlords, not at the moment at least. It breaks my heart to leave you all in the lurch like this but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Our former editor, Flaming Nora, has a lovely blog that's been climbing the popularity ladder since it started. She's invited yours truly to contribute to it and I've accepted. There are spoilers, her brilliant weekly update review, gossip and lots more. I've started a blog as well for essay type posts, those long and rambly ones I'm famous for. I'll be linking to them from Nora's blog but you can read them directly here. You can get your weekly preview spoilers at Corrie.net in the Weatherfield Gazette (UK) or the Moosejaw Mercury (Canada) on either Thursday or Friday (when I get round to uploading them). It's been a priviledge bringing my love and knowledge of Corrie to you, the fans, and hopefully, Shiny can find some writers with a fresh perspective. I hope to see some of you over at Nora's and/or at my blog!
Tvor Corrieblog Looks like its all over, but not to worry...there is an independant replacement.... The New Corrieblog :D |

Just when we're getting used to seeing the cuddly side of the pyromaniac, Graeme Proctor's bad-boy past will catch up with him soon. He's going to start scoring drugs for Joe McIntrye, says The Star.
With Joe hooked on the high-strength painkillers, he pleads with Graeme: “Just get me one more bottle… please, I’m begging you. I’m desperate.” And Joe's going to start stealing from Gail to fund his habit. Poor Gail. Has that woman not suffered enough? Coronation Street Blog |

Coronation Street's gay knicker-stitcher Sean Tully will fall for a gay bodybuilder in an upcoming storyline. At the beginning of July, Sean - played by 33-year-old Antony Cotton - embarks on a new fitness regime with friend and housemate Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) and regularly begins to attend a local gym. While there, Sean falls head over heels for clean-living and religious gay gym-goer Leon, played by Andrew Langtree (pictured). Despite his best efforts, Sean quickly realises that Leon actually fancies Jason and so in an attempt to win him around, Sean begins to tell a series of comedic lies in the hope of forging a closer friendship. The camp barman first makes out that Jason is gay, before 'revealing' that Jason's mum Eileen (Sue Cleaver) is a Jehovah's Witness. However, when Leon makes a surprise visit to The Rovers, he's taken aback to see Jason kissing Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and Eileen discussing gambling. Langtree, who is also a professional singer, was handpicked by Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney to sing during his late wife Linda's memorial service, while former Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife Cherie also asked him to perform in front of the Queen at Buckingham Palace. A Coronation Street source told The People: "Andrew's taken a bit of friendly ribbing from his mates after singing in front of the Queen - because his new character is one. But he's fitted in really well and the storylines are set to be a lot of fun." Langtree, who has previously appeared in Cutting It, Heartbeat, Holby City and Doctors, makes his first appearance in Weatherfield on July 3. |
LOL Elieen a Jehovah's Witness
I think I remember him from cutting it as well |
