what makes it different to regular snooker?

GiRTh 30-10-2010 12:46 PM

Watching it now. Looks quite good but what are the rule changes?

Iceman 30-10-2010 12:47 PM

THE RULES OF THE TRADITIONAL GAME OF SNOOKER APPLY, SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING VARIATIONS:

• Nine reds are racked in a diamond, with the point of the diamond next to the pink.

• The middle red is the PowerBall, which when potted counts for two points and triggers a two minute PowerPlay during which every ball potted counts double – if a shot is missed during a PowerPlay, the player’s opponent inherits the remaining time.

• Each game lasts half an hour; the clock starts when the reds are broken, and stops as the final black of each frame is potted.

• A shot clock limits players to twenty seconds for each shot.

• If the twenty second shot clock is exceeded, there is a 20 point penalty and the initiative passes to the player's opponent unless the opponent opts for the player to continue.

• Points count, frames don’t. The most points scored after half an hour wins.

• When a player breaks, two or more reds must hit a cushion otherwise the player’s turn ends.

• The area behind the baulk line is the PowerZone – if the cue ball is struck from within the PowerZone, any colour potted counts for double and during a PowerPlay, quadruple.

• A century break in any frame is worth 50 bonus points. If this is repeated in the next frame, 100 bonus points. If this is repeated in the third frame, 200 bonus points.

• The “ball in hand” principle applies following a foul shot. The cue ball can be positioned anywhere in the PowerZone.

• A foul shot during a PowerPlay carries a double points penalty.

• A foul shot occurring when the cue ball is struck from the PowerZone and during a PowerPlay, carries a quadruple points penalty.

• The game will end after the half hour playing period and the player with the most points wins.

• If the game is tied on points after the half an hour, the table is cleared and the game is decided by potting the re-spotted black.

Wish i had ITV4 :(

The crowd seem a lot more rowdy and I think it's basically an all day pissup for them. It's pretty good, but I guess if it's on ITV4 it's saying something. 1 on a Sat afternoon probs won't bring many viewers in either

On tonight, dunno if they're not showing the first few rounds on tv or I've just missed it D:

UK championship started today. Snooker, Christmas time and a nice lump of dope for me tonight. Goodtimes.

Hoping for an O'Sullivan win as usual. His stab happy dad being released from jail seems to have lit a fire under him. He was on fantastic form at the Premier League.

The Higgins Maguire match turned out to be pretty good. Was a little shakey at the start though

Iceman 08-12-2010 11:36 PM

is there any coverage on late tonight? Missed all of today's.

InOne 08-12-2010 11:38 PM

Think you might have missed it D: It was on a bit ago, try BBC2

Iceman 09-12-2010 12:17 AM

Iceman 09-12-2010 12:17 AM

Almost an oldskool match it seems. Williams is starting to regain his prolific form from early 2000s while Higgins has came back from a ban showing why he is ranked as high as he is. Because Higgins is Scottish, I'm gonna back the fellow Scotsman to win the title.

I will watch it if i remember its on (which i have missed most of the tournament from forgetting its on so seems unlikely)

I have a problem with that too lol Never catch it through the day, always try watch the evening sessions though.

Sunday is a perfect day for Snooker I think, can just relax and watch it.

Novo 12-12-2010 12:39 PM

I hate both the finalists

InOne 12-12-2010 12:45 PM

Not too bothered about Williams. Wish Ronnie did better :bored:

Iceman 12-12-2010 03:18 PM
