Well if Maddie was on the list then they should be too. But I agree, the list should consist only of events like 9/11, 7/7 bombings and Iraq etc...

InOne 30-12-2009 06:11 PM

No kid going missing should be on the list.

I'm astonished at some of the views in this thread to be honest.

Well I'm sorry that we don't all agree the death of Jade Goody is the most pivotal event of the decade

teabag. 30-12-2009 06:45 PM

Jade goody on this list is a bit odd

9/11... as it did cause some of the other events in the list.

There should be other things included eg. The Dissapearance and Deaths of Sarah Payne, Millie Dolwer (just a few miles from me), Hollie Wells and Jessica Chapman. All 3 cases were huge and are in the same league as Madaline's dissapearance... but Madaline's is probbaly most remembered as its more recent and has still not been found.

You could even have Shannon Matthews one, and her being found.

I know how insensitive this will sound but there was much much worse than Hollie & Jessica in the 60s, I think it was mirrored but only 2 now and 5 then (possibly 6).

InOne 30-12-2009 10:57 PM

The whole problem with kids being up there is like, why should one be up and not the other, what makes one death worse than the other. It could be argued that Shannon Matthews could be up there, the psychological trauma she must have endured, turned out to be a pretty sickening case.

Enid 30-12-2009 11:01 PM

The Shannon Matthews ordeal shocked me more than the Maddie disappearance.

Indeed, I heard the general story but then watched a doc about it. The mum laughing in the living room while her daugher was getting force fed anti-depressants made me sick to my stomach

Sick bitch. Ever since the dissapearance was first told of on the news, I looked at her parents and immediatley thought that there was more that met the eye. I actually did feel she had involvement in it.

They were laughing in the courtroom too, no remorse at all

9/11 is probably the most defining thing this decade... it has changed how we live our lives drastically.

ILoveTRW 30-12-2009 11:34 PM

did anyone see the Tsunami thing on C4 tonight, it was great

iRyan 31-12-2009 12:11 AM

I think the defining moment is the internet and technology. Things have completely changed from 2000-2009. Everything is done through computers now. It's changed the way we live and the way we communicate.

InOne 31-12-2009 12:14 AM

Good post actually, we sort of made it quite a morbid thread lol

Stu 31-12-2009 12:26 AM

It's a bit too broad for my liking though. In that case it's always the defining moment because technology is an ever evolving thing.

'Moment' is a specific event or period of time.

InOne 31-12-2009 12:32 AM

True but i'm sure there must have been some moment, i'm trying to think if their was like a breakthrough in Science or something as well

Stu 31-12-2009 12:37 AM

There have been plenty like the mapping of the human geneome project and the development of A.I but the thing is they are still in their infancy and we won't know the full effects until decades from now.

InOne 31-12-2009 12:38 AM

Yeah, we think these things are big now though, but god knows how long they will really be remembered. Something massive could happen

Jords 31-12-2009 02:14 AM

9/11 for sure, but I went with the next thing which for me was MJ's death, as he was such a big image and his death shocked the majority who knew of him.

CaraRawr 31-12-2009 07:00 AM

9/11 and Barack Obama.
