I haven't heard a lot of these before, of those new to me, I really liked Feelin Oblivion and I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight.

Yeah, I've always liked that track from Turin Brakes and Richard and Linda Thompson's stuff is just wonderful, melochonic folk music with a touch of rock. You'd really like their albums or the best of one - it's a cracker actually.

A song that I never ever get tired of.

I could literally go for dozens of tracks from this man, but I'll opt for a more obscure one from earlier on his career that was only good enough to put on the B-side with My Cherie Amour! Amazing. What a man.

I suppose it's the most strikingly personal and pointed lyrics that the band have ever written, dealing as it does with their former band member, Syd Barrett, who was suffering from mental illness, having left the band to live a reclusive existence away from the limelight. This was their tribute to him and it's a sensational piece.

i like some of the early trippy syd barrett stuff

i like this 1

setanta 07-02-2010 07:22 PM

Yeah, he was great. I just love how the band captured the essence of the man and their feeling for him with Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Just a masterpiece. He came into the studio while they were recording it too. You can really sense the emotion underlying the whole piece.. gorgeous song.

Oh, this is the shi$e. I'm getting to the stage where they all mean so much to me, both the song and artist.

Edit: I can't decide!! He has so many classics.

Yep, starting to get hard to decide on my favourite songs here. I mean, I could easily have my top 10 songs of all time from this great band who continue to grow and develop as artists. I'll go for this one simply because it was off the album that made me first take note of this extraordinary group, and I've been a devoted follower ever since.

Even still, I could easily throw one off their last album with no hesistancy. My favourite band of the last 20 years.

I've already had to chop and change because I keep remembering other stuff that I love. It's really difficult actually.

Ross 07-02-2010 09:24 PM

I'm 95% positive Sugababes are in the top 5.

setanta 08-02-2010 09:02 AM

Slighty cheating here, but seeing as I'm dealing with a band like The Beatles who could easily have dominated this list with their musical talent I think it should be allowed. Going for their medley from side two of Abbey Road, which I continually go back to. A beautiful blend of wonderful songs.

Have to add this too and I'll decide later on which one to put in the list!

A man who sadly never quite found his audience during his own lifetime, Nick Drake's music has a timeless, magical quality that could have been produced in any era, with his quiet, soulful lyrics and beautiful precision with melody and guitar picking. Wow, I fecking love this man lol.
