I don't really think Mods are hated, I think people just feel that they have to act differently around a mod out of fear, unless they know them.

Most of the mods on here are doing a good job. A lot of inactive mods, though.

well said Jay :)

being a t wat and being unfunny will make your far more unpopular

Stu 15-02-2010 02:21 PM

Well we have two distinct breed of the species Moderalis. Moderalis Miserables, who take themselves very seriously, come on once a month, mod the first thing they see, then leave.

Then we have Moderalis Tolerantalus. The ones who are clearly active, friendly members as well as being mods, who tolerate active flaming of really stupid troll members and ban and mod what really needs to be banned and modded.

Tom4784 15-02-2010 02:36 PM

I don't really have any negative feelings against the mods, If they take a course of action I don't think is right then I'll always put my point across but at the end of the day I treat them like I would anyone here.

You're not one of the culprits, don't worry

Of course, but there's no doubt in my mind that some, not all, are a bit unfair and biased. But I understand that it's a difficult job, just some, as Stu said, take things a bit too seriously.

I am only human. I have favorite mods and a least fav mod.

Maybe some don't take it seriously enough!

Shaun 15-02-2010 09:51 PM

I like and dislike forum members, and I like and dislike moderators. The status doesn't change anything for me.

Beastie 15-02-2010 09:51 PM

Suppose the mods are just doing their jobs. It is ammusing when they randomly lock threads!

There's no reason for some of them to take it so seriously, though. It's a forum.

- Trolls? Unprovoked, direct and harsh insults?

Moderate them, by all means.

- Arguments? Dark humour?

Don't need to be moderated.

Stu 15-02-2010 10:02 PM

I think the fact that we have more male than female moderators is an absoloute disgrace, personally. I mean the two admins are male. What a joke.

I love your constant attempts to dismiss your comments as 'dark humour'! 10/10 for effort!

Clearly many find them distasteful! Surely you are free to engage in such humour with likeminded people via U2U - why should the rest of us be subjected to them!

Arguments too can quickly get out of control with some members - sometimes intervention is required! In the end - that is for the admin to determine - not the members!

LOL, do you honestly believe they're anything else? :joker:

You know, just because you, and some others, may not find jokes like those (which fall under the category of 'dark humour') funny, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't be allowed to post them freely. I don't find 'why did the chicken cross the road?' jokes funny. So on the same line of reasoning, I take it if someone were to tell ones of those jokes, it would be deleted, right?

Yeah, they can get out of control. But what you need to remember is that it's a forum. People are going to argue. That is the sole purpose of a forum. Closing threads because arguments are occuring is just silly, and annoying for those who are in the middle of one.

People don't find 'Did the chicken cross the road' jokes offensive Jack, that's the difference. And this forum would be absolute chaos if we didn't moderate arguments, people are put off by arguments,it makes the forum all hostile.

Well you could continue via PM. Truth is, most forum arguments are for show. And silly. And pointless. When they just drag on and on they get tired very fast. They also hijack the topic.

Arguments between 2 intelligent minds can certainly be entertaining. But most on here are toddler school bickering. IMHO.

Well that's a debate, that's different. If people start insulting each other it get's bad. And argeed about it hijacking the topic. I dunno how many times I've gone into a topic to post about the original thread topic and been put off by people arguing in it.

But the intention is not to offend people. People should not be offended by jokes like that. Shocked, and possibly disgusted, yes, but not offended - unless of course they are in anyway directly related to the joke at hand. Then I could understand, as it has happened to me before.

People always seem to think that because someone tells a Maddie joke or a Fritzl joke, that they enjoy child abduction and promote incest. That's far from the case. I think Fritzl is a disgusting, disgusting man. But turning his situation into humour is funny. Very funny. It's not to everyones taste, I'll agree, but that doesn't mean it should be censored.

And that's true, yes. But I feel that sometimes threads with arguing in them are just closed when the argument isn't really that bad.

But than would render the entire point of the forum pointless. What's the point in having a forum, if we're going to argue through U2U?

I don't believe that you approve of what he did, of course - but nevertheless such jokes are in poor taste and offensive to many people! Stupid chicken jokes, whilst not funny, are not offensive - there is a difference!

As for the arguments thing - clearly the admin don't agree with your views - and they are, after all, the ones running the forum! It is their decision to make - taking into account the likely views of the majority! They close threads to prevent things getting out of hand - the sole purpose is for debate - not slanging matches and gang mentality, as can sometimes happen!

Princess 15-02-2010 10:42 PM

It is offensive Jack whether you think it is or not. And it's when arguments clog up threads that they get annoying.

Stacey. 15-02-2010 10:44 PM

Okay, fair enough, they're offensive. So, as I think Dezzy mentioned, why can't you just steer clear of them instead of complaining? Or better still - have a thread for them - then that way people who don't want to participate or view that sort of humour - dont have to. I'd be content with that, as I'm sure others would be.

I never said they agreed with me. That's not the point. But the arguing thing is a seperate matter, I'm not really fussed about that.

Well Im referring to threads that have been closed because they have dissolved into pointless bickering or become repeatitive.

If you feel that your personal arguement has still got more steam then continue it via PM. But when 2 people get into an endless slanging match it rapidly becomes useless to the rest of the forum and more about their egos. And destroys the thread topic.

However, Im sure some threads have been locked unnecessarily. Mods are human. They make bad calls sometimes.
