Hollyoaks star Carley Stenson has revealed that she was pleased when she heard that her character Steph Cunningham would be diagnosed with cervical cancer.

The health nightmare kicks off in next week's episodes, which see Steph struggling to come to terms with the news about her condition.

Speaking of the shock plot, Stenson told All About Soap: "I'm so flattered I've been trusted with this storyline. I was the face for the campaign Arm Against Cervical Cancer last year, so it's important to me that I get it right."

Asked whether Steph is confident about beating her illness, the actress replied: "There's no other option. If she doesn't fight this, the alternative isn't worth thinking about."

Steph initially decides not to tell love interest Gilly Roach (Anthony Quinlan) about her news, and also keeps her family out of the loop.

Stenson explained: "With Gilly, she's embarrassed and doesn't want him to look after her. She also doesn't want to hurt her family either."

I'm delighted that Carley and Steph will be at the centre of the action again:).

Unlike Lucy Allan who wasted both PM will do better with them and give Carley good material to work with;)

Watched all last's weeks yesturday! Hollyoaks is much better from where I stopped watching it from. Steph's cancer story should be interesting, espicially after she's just got back with that guy again.

I think Theresa will be exposed as the killer in Hollyoaks Later since it's been confirmed she will be in it;).

Carmel will be devestated once she finds out.. also don't get how suddenly Mercedes and Malachy are back together, I love them as a couple but in the C4 episode the other day they made up quickly and seems that a quick fumble was all it took:joker:.

Jacqui will also be moving out of the McQueen's house accoridng to Paul Marquess and will be having storylines where she has to get used to life without caring for her family and interacting with others outside of the family circle.

I do actually think there will be more axings planned.. first he needs to get rid of those who are going and introduce their replacements then get them settled in.

Some of the actors are still under contract so they could be let go when that has finished as Hollyoaks normally do 1 or 2 year contracts for their actors each year;).

Kent Riley has confirmed that he has filmed his leaving scene for Hollyoaks.

The 26-year-old actor, who has played Zac Ramsay on the Channel 4 teen soap for four years, told fans on Twitter that he has shot his exit.

He wrote: "I am not yet finished filming that is next Thursday! Ha but I am riding on the crest of a victorious coloured wave!

"A busride with 2 others after 3 and a half years in exactly what I wanted! Tweeters my ********** living room is still unfinished!! I am livid! On the brightside I have just filmed my leaving scene in the oaks (sic)."

Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks pulled an average audience of 640k (4.3%) yesterday evening, early figures show.

The screening, which saw Josh take the stand in court, drew the serial's lowest ever 6.30pm ratings.

Kevin the Alien will arrive from Aecyron Proxima *Centauri – a red dwarf star in the *constellation of Centauri, reports the Daily Star Sunday.

Viewers of the Chester-based soap, which recorded it's lowest ever viewing figures on Friday, will see sci-fi geek Elliot Bevan (Garnon Davies) attempt to convince friends and family that Kevin is a real alien.

"Everyone knows Hollyoaks can get away with different storylines. But having an alien land in the *village is just out of this world," an insider told the paper. “The soap’s bosses have to *convince viewers that they’re *actually watching an alien *walking around the village."

“Some of the cast actually burst out laughing when they were told about Kevin. But they have *already started filming the storyline so it’s *going to happen."

The insider added that boss Paul *Marquess is "certain it will be a success”.
