There is also a difference that education of one sort or another is compulsory in the UK.

So you think that parents should still send their kids to school even though they dont like it. Or should they wait until they are 15 and let them decide whether to go to primary school or not.?

It has a lot of guidelines as to how you should raise someone, teach him your beliefs obviously. but a muslim is considered an adult at around 12 or 13. After than age, one becomes responsible of his own actions. And scientifically, it does concur!

And is it normal for a practising Muslim not to encourage their children in faith when they are 0-12?

(and an adult at 12, what is that about?)

Think about yourself, and your personal experience.

How can they possibly be considered adults when they haven't fully developed physically or emotionally - nothing logical about it!

Are you trying to use the little book of calm to prove a point or something?

In my personal experience, religion tends to be really, really dumb.

Seriously. Adult at 12? Do you honestly actually believe that shit?

I really dont care what you, random forum member thinks about any of it. \i only stated what I believe in. It has nothing to do with you. I did quote you though. So my bad, I will make sure I respond to the thread in general next time.

Ah the ol' 'I don't care what you think'. Much easier than just tackling the problem head on, right?

Bit of free advice : If you believe in a doctrine that states that twelve year olds are adults, I would be prepared to have your beliefs questioned quiet a lot ...

Wildcat! 02-03-2010 03:55 PM

The thing is, when you think about being an adult, a lot of you, are only thinking about sex stuff. In societies, where, thats not the dominant issue, its farthest from most peoples minds. They think of other issues, not at all involved in that. And yeah, around 11, 12, is when you can contribute.

Well I was raised Christian but kicked that dirty habit when I was 13, but religion still fascinated me up until about a year ago when I exhausted my interest of it and it reached it's natural end point as a sort of general interest. Fuck knows how many hours I spent reading up on religion online or reading books about it or debating it with people [both secular and non secular].

Err no. I'm thinking about neuroscience. You know ... like your brain and that. Oh and common sense. I know it's sorely lacking when it comes to religion.

perhaps you will come back to it when you are older?

like that saying about how anyone who is 18 and not a socialist is crazy and anyone who is 30 still a socialist is crazier still.

At least you have challenged yourself and others about it! I think its the least you can do!
And most of us, has the ability to accept or deny any of the religions around.

touche

WOMBAI 02-03-2010 04:04 PM

12 year olds are not adults in any way, sexually or otherwise. And to say that sex is not the dominant issue in societies where very young girls are often married off to much older men - is an insult to the intelligence of others!

I agree, which is why it should be left for someone to decide for themselves. You wouldn't indoctrinate your newborn baby into a political party. Why do it for religion.

Sheep who never question their beliefs and thus never really bother to understand them ... what use to a church are they? I wonder how many christened members of this forum actually read The Bible. Very few I would imagine. Why would you want these non believers counted amongst your ranks?

true. But I find it funny that people cant see how, in my own life, after I was about 11 or 12, is when I started to think for myself. I had beliefs, that were taught to me, but it was, when I was able to question them. Agree or disagree.

My bad if I offend anyone. This honestly is coming from a personal belief, and has nothing to do with any groups/

I believe I have a legal, a moral and ethical responsibility to ensure my children are brought up with the best education I can give them. That does not necessarily either include or preclude attendance at church. Children can be educated to have some knowledge of ALL religions and to make their mind up to follow one or to change as they mature.

That would obviously mean the children following the normal state education pattern, Nursery, primary, then secondary educations. Unless I felt that home schooling would be more advantagrous to my children, which I dont.

Since when? Yes it IS painful. But all you do it take 2 tablets, they make you miscarry...No dismembering or anything...

Then again, I dont know about abortions done late on...

He is right about that - in abortions where the fetus is more than about 6 weeks old!
