Excessive drinkers and smokers end up needing transplants and tbh they're the one's who screwed their own organs up.

Many of those guys are not eligible for transplant though. There is a shortage of organs as it is, the priority is hardly for Snake to get your liver.

As totally awesome as that would be, dude.

they should also make a rule that peopl who opt out of donating their organs when they die, are not eligable to receive donations!

But if you die, surely you wouldnt need one?

This is also a good idea.

Why on earth should someone selfish enough NOT to donate (lets face it, you're dead, you dont need anything), take advantage of someone who did do it?

If Shasowns idea was done where unless you specifically said that you ddn't want your organs donated then they automatically were after you died. Then the people (while still alive) who took the opt out, I want to be buried whole option, would not be eligable for organ donations should they ever need them.

There is a priority list, people like that are never near the top of it. And just because someone has made a bad mistake in their life doesn't mean they deserve to die.

Some people just may not know enough aout organ donation or not know who to become a donor, doesnt mean they're selfish.

I'll choose to opt out when I've almost kicked the bucket then. :D

I don't need to elaborate on why I want all my organs. I want a very dignified burial. If I have a heart, lung and kidney missing, it wouldn't be right.

Lewis. 10-03-2010 07:22 PM

A very good thread actually. I am not sure where I stand.. As much as I hate the idea of having my insides missing when I'm cremated.. I do stand by the idea that I wouldn't need them anyway and that If I don't need them then there is no point having them.. So yeah, I'm undecided at the moment.. But I'd definitely love to give blood when I'm old enough..

No, this idea was to be mixed with shasowns idea of having an opt-out list, instead of joining the register.

Those who opt out, wouldnt be eligible for a transplant, should they need one.

What if its a murderer, would you be happy your organs going to that sort of person.
And people who abuse their organs and get a transplant may not learn after that, just look at george best, didnt he have 2 liver transplants (or was it just one??)

did you read anything I wrote? I'm talking about if Shasowns idea was put into practice not the way it is now. His idea was that, everybody is automatically a donor and if they din't want to be they would have to state that instead of the way it is now which is the opposite way round!

Ok there's a difference between a murderer and an alcholic for one. George Best just had one liver transplant. I don't think organs would be given to murderers very often anyways. I wish I knew about this.

Anyways I would give my organs no matter what,a life is a life.

That's because he was George freakin' Best.

It's a bit of a piss poor, clutching at straws argument against organ donation really. I think we can safely assume, as people already said, that a murderer will never be getting your organs.

They have priority lists. I imagine murderers go somewhere near the bottom of that list.

And whats with this dignified burial stuff? I wasn't aware that there was a dignified manner to be locked in a box under six feet of dirt rotting away without a change of clothes while sick kids suffer on organ waiting lists.

~dignity?

It was just because George Best is the only high proflie case i could use, I could hardly say, the guy who lives down the road.

They'll be feeding on me anyway. I don't think they're too fussy.

Princess 10-03-2010 07:32 PM

George Best fecked up his transplant because he started drinking again. It's not like they gave him a 2nd one after that.

Anyways liver transplants can come from alive people, you only need a bit of the liver. So relatives give transplants sometimes.

Worms dont really get to feed on the body, by the time they have gotten through the box you go in (even one of the new biodegradable cardboard coffins) your insides have jellified and rotted, most of your skin and muscle tissue has rotted.

That is of course unless some time after death a fly laid eggs on or in you in which case, the larva get a good feed on you. Happy Thoughts!
