It's a simple rule of the forum. Thats all. Theres plenty you can say without resorting to it

Maybe we need to try it again. It's good for these sort of issues to be addressed. Of course, there is always PM, but having a more open type of thread where people can contribute and agree to choose a side and an opposition has the potential to be useful. If, however, they choose to keep a private debate, that's partly what PM is there for. Of course, there are always going to be things said on threads that lead to sub-fights, but, other than PM, more active discussion, wherein the members can support or disagree with stated comments has the potential to be useful. It's just when people abuse such privilege, with such things as picking a fight with somebody over the slightest of things, is when the continuity of such type of thread needs to be debated and taken into consideration. It would be far preferable if members could just get along, but, as stated in a previous thread, it simply won't happen. Try putting this idea into consideration; but I don't think it's very fair that, because of a few members who like to troll and bait, this type of privilege should be permanently revoked and and deemed as to what can be considered to be nonconstructive debate. Perhaps you could moderate this by allowing a thread wherein members can challenge each other if they feel they have been treated unfairly, with sides opposing or supporting, rather than having to have threads closed and receiving infractions or bans constantly. Think about it. :)

well now that the moral hippy brigade(and a couple of hypocrites) have swamped the thread I'll make a couple of points;

Firstly, Im exagerrating to make a point; I don't really envisage an all out insulting and abuse throwing thread. Just a place where members can have their disagreements without it disrupting the thread topic and getting it closed.

Secondly, bad feelings and arguments break out everyday here, lets not pretend otherwise. Suggesting these should be designated a certain area is hardly outrageous or extreme; its actually sensible and realistic.

but heyho, I actually knew this was a nogo. This thread was started in a fit of boredom after rain ruined my plans.

Well said Kerry,I have never understood the need to throw insults unnecessarily at each other, it solves little, often inflames situations and is extremely tedious for others to see or hear.

This forum is not the place for such negativity,it's a discussion/debating forum on a wide range of topics not used at present than goodness for often near poorly reasoned attacks on other people on the forum just for the fun of it.

This wouldnt happen though realistically. Look at the 'spam here' thread we tried. People wouldnt get enough attention if they did it in a seperate thread so it would still spill over onto the forum.

I think I just posted into a thread similar to this??

Yeah, the troll tank? I think everyones up for a fight tonight or something. It's been too much of a laugh on here lately. :joker:

The worst kind of people who the fight thread would be designed for would inevitably never be used by them anyway. The reason why they drag tedious arguments of their arsehole and beat people to death with them is because they want everyone to see it happen and see it happen in the thread.

Then if your like a certain member when you get bored or feel it's not going your way you can suddenly request that it be taken to PM instead which is strange considering you wait seven hundred and sixty seven posts in to the shitstorm to make such a polite request.

The mods should make sure threads have as little fights as possible. Not try and concentrate it all into one thread, IMO.

Smithy 11-06-2011 10:53 PM

-cba reading the last 3 pages-

There's sections on forums - no holds barred, where pretty much anything goes, it keeps arguments off of the main forum too

Benjamin 12-06-2011 12:57 AM

Why do people feel the need to insult people online? Have you nothing better to do with your time? Yes there may be people you do not like, just avoid them, easily done online and we have the 'ignore' feature, even easier to avoid them.

Smithy 12-06-2011 12:58 AM

ignore is crap, you can still see that they've posted, If I want to ignore someone I don't want to be reminded they're on the forum at all

So a thread just for the arguments would be twice as bad

Thats true. I had one person on ignore before I became a mod(now I cant have anyone on ignore  )

It annoyed the hell out of me knowing that they had posted so I always clicked the 'view post' thing, which kinda defeated the object of having them on ignore.

Also you can see if someone else quotes them :/
