I'm thinking that it'll work like this:
Round 1 - open for exactly one week; users are allowed to nominate up to 15 members and the 50 with the most nominations at the end of the week go through to Round 2. In the likely event of tied positions at the end of Round 1 (e.g. 45 users have 5+ nominations but 12 users all have 4 nominations, and there are only 5 places left to fill) it would then go to the first come first served basis that was previously used, so the first 5 out of those 12 users to have reached 4 nominations in that hypothetical example would qualify. In the unlikely event that position number 50 was tied between two users who received their 4th nomination in the same set of nominations; they would both then qualify and we'd have a top 51 or whatever the case may be. I will also be scrapping the rule of multiplying round 1 nominations by 3; to be replaced by an as yet to be decided rule.
Round 2 - as before, users have 10 votes whereby they must rank their favourite ten from the qualified 50 from 1st to 10th and provide reasons for why they are giving them points. 10 points goes to 1st place, down to 10th place which gets 1 point. Users will have another week to send their round 2 votes in; then I will need a couple of days to prepare the countdown and it will be hosted on a weekend evening, on the assumption that's what best suits the majority of people.
Countdown - For those who are unfamiliar; there is then a countdown thread where I post paragraphs filled with reasons why people love other forum members and normally there are at least one or two scraps and the thread gets locked in a haze of people congratulating the winner, saying thank you to me and being annoyed/delighted by the end result. However, it's a lot of fun and I hope this time around will be just as successful as the last one, which was the best one yet in terms of user participation!
Exceptions - you may not wish to be included in the countdown, as many users don't - if so, you would just send me a private message asking to be left out and I would post in the thread accordingly that you do not wish to be nominated. You don't have to provide a reason for this; people withdraw for all sorts of reasons, it's only meant to be a bit of fun but inevitably some people spoil it for all the rest and I can understand not wanting to be included in that. I would ask that if you are withdrawing, you let me know before Round 2 begins, but by that point it'll have been running for a week so you'd probably be aware of it by then.
I do not allow permanently banned or deceased members to be included simply on the basis that they can't give consent to being included and because it can be seen as insensitive.
And uhh.. I think that's everything. What does everyone think? I'd probably be looking at starting Round 1 up around the 21st of November, Round 2 on the 28th, closing it on the 5th of December and hosting the final countdown on the 7th of December - but I'd confirm that closer to the time.
