I agree, easier is the right word

It would change my life!

But if I were a young man, then I would have to invest it wisely and not go and blow the lot like I would now! lol.

50k would give you a nice deposit on a house.. a decent car and a really nice holiday.
Its only life changing if you have a business mind or invest it well....

Depends who you are. You could do a lot with it. For example start your own business if you are entrepreneurial enough.

To me life changing means you can give up work. I don't think you can do this on 50K.

You are right. 1 million would not provide a lavish life for 50 years. Even with that amount of money would require a young person to work.

50K would be a deposit for Connor's house. Lets hope he buys in the right place in Ireland. Plenty of new houses but many are on unfinished estates.

No. You only pay tax on interest paid. The way savings are at present you would be lucky to get more than 3% interest which would be £1500 and therefore pay about £300 in tax. but that is only if you keep the whole 50K for a year.

It is life changing when you can move away from your parents.

jackc1806 04-08-2012 07:32 AM

For Conor it will do a lot and I feel happy for him

joeysteele 04-08-2012 07:52 AM

Conor admits to having nothing, of course it can change his life, it can open doors he couldn't dream of opening.
I hope he uses it wisely and good luck to him.

Yes, it's a lot of money! Good for him!

I think for him it is, since he says he doesn't have much (same reason why he wants Adam to win the other half), life changing is such a complex term cos many people will have different interpretations according to their life styles and needs, for Conor it is, for other is not, I'd say that it would make things go easier for a while and if you invest the money wisely it could create greater opportunities but usually people who go to this kind of shows don't have that mindset and end up blowing up their money on parties and other useless things.

No, 50k is not life changing in reality. In theory it's great and when you get it you think it's a lot and it's amazing. In reality, it's not very much at all. I got left just under £50k from an Aunt. By the time I paid off all my bills, the car went wrong so had to get a new car, had a holiday then bought a few nice but inexpensive things for my new baby, most had gone. This was 10 years ago when things weren't so expensive. We had to re save for our deposit on a house.

Now I would invest that money more wisely, and if conor did that then the money could make a slight difference. But if you've never had it, you think it's a lot and spend freely. Before you know it, it's gone. Conor has already said he doesn't have a job, so the likelihood is that he'll try to live the high life off the money and blow it by accident.

As someone said, not life changing just handy
