Yes, it's an American thing like counting one one-thousand, two one-thousand, three one-thousand, when trying to accurately estimate the number of seconds that have gone by.

In Luke S' case, he could not concentrate and at some point counted 17, 18, 19, 16, 15, etc.. or some crap like that.

This picture of Luke S so reminds me o the picture of (I think) Jenn or Rachel from BBUK8 after there was some big bust up in the house and they were crying hysterics while holding onto someone else who was trying to console them.
