Hmmm... the idea that the government should visit every home and inspect the weight of individuals is a little Nineteen Eighty Four... However, obesity, like smoking and alcoholism, is self-inflicted. Fatty, sugary food should be more heavily taxed like tobacco and alcohol are, to pay for the massive strain obesity puts on the health service.

Jake. 30-09-2012 06:05 PM

Why shouldn't people be the weight they choose? I hate how its all 'fat people cost the tax payers as they are all having heart attacks 24/7' just no, people can be fat their whole lives without having an injury.

Jake. 30-09-2012 06:08 PM

Of course some of the obese use the health service, along with alcoholics, drug addicts, the disabled etc. We are all born with free choice, if I was fat and some bloke from the government wanted to come in my home to 'inspect' me, I would tell him to **** right off.

Well by then (in the future)
he could see from his beam unit
that you do not need to be inspected

i do not agree about taxing food more beacuse good healthy food cost more!
its the super markets and shops that should be held responsible and the people that pruduce these cheap meals,
also the pubs sell the cheap booze so people drink more than they should and end up in a and e or being dealt with by the police, costing the tax payer more money

I guess it is swings and roundabouts to put it cruelly though.

Although obese people do put a strain on the health service, due to their condition they rarely reach retirement ages due to massive health issues so then more is saved as to benefits after retirement age.

There are many reasons for great weight gain though, I know of someone who was diagnosed with Diabetes type 1 and was put on insulin, needing a high dose of it too each day,
They found that their weight was going up considerably and were told insulin can cause weight gain.

"I guess it is swings and roundabouts to put it cruelly though."

Yes you could say that.
But can you not see a better future
with a Inspector Of Fat.

I think healthy food like fruit, vegetables etc should be cheaper than fast and processed foods, the latter are the foods some people go for because it is cheap and usually full of sugar, salt etc.It might be easier for people to eat healthier if they could afford the 'good' foods, and although being obese and smoking too much endangers health,I think alchohol is by far the thing we should be clamping down on and tackling as that not only affects the persons life ,it can affect a lot of other peoples too,so for me it's alchohol that would top my priority in getting sorted.

a lot of the blame needs to be laid at the feet of the super markets and the people that produce these fat and sugar filled foods.

arista 30-09-2012 06:30 PM

Supermarkets
will change.

why do you think they will?

arista 30-09-2012 06:35 PM

They are changing now
so I think as the Future comes
Supermarkets will be better
not so expensive Fruit and Veg.

I bought Kenya Fresh Green Beans
for Just a pound.

well you enjoy your beans:xyxwave:
but there is too much money involved for the supermarkets to stop selling their fat and sugar filled foods.

Oh, heart disease isn't the only thing that fat people get, even though it must put a massive strain on the heart to pump blood round an obese person. They're at a greater risk of cancer, for a start. Then there's diabetes, liver disease, incontinence problems are far greater in obese people, kidney disease, stroke, cellulitus, sleep apnea, arthritis, gaut... Obesity-related problems cost the NHS more than smoking-related diseases, and while smoking is down, obesity rates are up. And the hardworking taxpayer is paying for them because while smokers and drinkers contribute more through taxes, fat people contribute no more but cost more.

I agree to a certain extent... but I know an awful lot of people who are obese who could certainly afford to eat more healthily. I agree that healthy foods should be cheaper though, definitely.
